Belated welcome AgentCooper! As you can see, Browncoats are Browncoats no matter when or how they found the 'Verse.
I'm new to the fandom too as it so happens> Fell in love about four months ago. No one has run me out in shame for finding Firefly so late...but then, I've made up for my lateness by buying EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!! 
I've got my heart set on T-Shirts next, but I digress.
