Everywhere I've been shows that The Train Job is the first episode of the series, but I've heard that there was a two hour first episode before the Train Job that isn't included in the dvd set. Is that true? Because I conjure that I will be mightily po'd if I buy the set and don't have the episode that sets up the whole history for the series!

The Firefly DVDs begin with the two-hour pilot, and then progress in proper order (as opposed to the aired order) through all the other episodes.

Train Job aired first on tv because fox didn't like the pilot Serenity which is 2 parts. It should be on the box set of DVDs out if ya don't have it ya got ripped.

"Battle of Serenity, Mal. Besides Zoe here, how many-" "I'm talkin at you! How many men in your platoon came out of their alive".

AvalonsMommy, enjoy the series. I love watching it with people that are viewing it for the first time. It was first aired on Fox in 2002. The execs didn't like the pilot that was a 2 part episode. So over one weekend Joss and Tim wrote the Train Job which was the first episode to be seen originally.

If you buy the box set, it is set in the correct order. The 1st episode is Serenity, and it is included. It's the 2 part episode that explains a bit about the 'verse and the characters in the show. The commercials are cut of course, so Serenity is about an hour and 25 minutes long. All of the other episodes are about 45 minutes.

If you enjoy Firefly, come back and let us know. After Christmas there will be more Browncoats around to welcome you to FFF.net.

Oh, there's no question I love Firefly--I've seen a couple of marathons the scifi channel did. But they don't show 'em often enough, and I reckon if I own 'em, I can see 'em all the time!

Everything that was aired is on the DVD in the intended order. If you want the aired order, the air date are there too.

But, there is an unaired pilot. The one where Mal as a complete asshole (some would call him "darker"). It was this that F*X viewed and made notes for things to change. These changes were made and the changed version is what aired and is on the DVD's.

Took a cursory look around and I can't find the site to download them. But, they are out there.

Welcome to the site!
Personally the unaired pilot is one of my favorite episodes, and I think that it is good to watch that one first, just because it sets up all the background and whatnot. Be sure to watch the episodes in order, with and without the commentaries, then repeat as needed. Then watch the movie Serenity. Then you get like the comics, and watch the River Tam Sessions (

) And then you'll be a crazy, insane fan like the rest of us!

Welcome, AvalonsMommy. We're mighty glad you're here.

I love that SciFi does marathons of our beloved show and you're right they don't do it often enough. We aim to do something about that.. if you're interested in participating, check out this thread:

As the others have said, no worries on the DVD's, they start at the beginning where they should and run thru each ep in order til you get to the last...so come back here if you need to talk to friendly folk after that.

I am the supply clerk here, and it's sort of become tradition for me to hand folks a virtual browncoat signifying the welcome we like to extend to new folks, so...

*hands Avalonsmommy a 'coat that fits just right*

Talk often, we love to yack as you can see. And we love it when folks join in.

our little crew, and I must say that browncoat
looks right shiny on you.

Have a strawberry or two from the box here and
slosh down a mug of the best Mudder's Milk.

There's so much tasty Firefly stuff here at
fff.net that you can spend a month of Sundays
soaking it all up.

Enjoy, and share with anyone who gets within
range!
