I am a guy - and it was plenty cringe-inducing. But Bond's responses made it funny regardless. Judging by the reaction in the theater I was in I wasn't the only one - the audience alternated between gasps and oohs of horror and then laughter.

Sister and I were trying hard not to laugh and, at some points, failing. But sister and I had already eeped when we saw the chair, which makes up for it.

I loved the movie, personally. I liked the complete re-boot theory. There was just enough dry humor to get you laughing now and then, but not so much to make it tongue-in-cheek. Craig does a good job looking and acting like a tough SOB. You believe he can turn cold and do what needs to be done.
Just enough gadgetry to keep it believable, but not overdone. (Wish they'd get the medications right during medical emergencies)
Nice touch to have a female lead put Bond in his place, taking him apart piece by piece. Opening chase scene has a special place in my martial artist's heart. (anybody want to see more, rent District B13)
