Outland, a forgotten classic 'grunge' SF movie.

Just picked up the DVD of Steve McQueen's last movie, The Hunter, and found it had been co-written by Peter Hyams!
The point was driven home, though, when a character named "Spota" was introduced near the beginning of the picture!

The name "Spota" appears in numerous Peter Hyams movies, from the drugged out space worker in "Outland" to a thug in "The Presidio" to the name of a NYC bar in "End Of Days". "Spota" also appears in "Timecop", "The Relic", and "Sudden Death".
In the audio commentary of the "End Of Days" DVD, Hyams finally admits, after long standing rumors on the Internet, that Spota is his wife's maiden name, and he places it in his movies as a Valentine to her.
Also, the movie had a truly astonishing foot chase through Chicago!
(Plus, the apartment building with the glass elevator, where "Winston" lives, is at the top of my street!

Yep, and the funniest thing about McQueen's character: He's the World's Worst Driver! ROTFLMAO!

I thought I was the only one who had the Outland DVD. Defiantly a great show
Now that I'm thinking about it I’m going to have to get it out & watch it again.

It's out on DVD and at a quite low price. So is the semi-sequel "The Junkman" (ever seen a '83 Cadillac Eldorado fly?).

Hey, I'm using tape (S-VHS) instead of Tivo, but I don't miss watching the low-rez ribbon format anymore (too many rental fees for not rewinding the cassette).

No doubt. But I was in good with our video guy so there were no worries on that front. I did get the Gone DVD, but the omission of the Lois Lane Blues song and the addition in the score was a bit upsetting. Still, I had fun with it.
