Admitedly, I don't know much about sports, nor do I really have any interest in them at all but I've read about Mark Cuban before and I think he's the shit.
I don't think Mark (or whoever wrote that on his behalf) understood the email at all when he wrote that response. That response doesn't make any sense and seems to have nothing to do with the question or the show in general.
Am I missing something here?
I think that asking him was a great idea though.

I don't know a lot about this but it looks like the response was regarding showing Firefly on HDNET (or whatever it is) and how they passed because it was shot on film that is lower quality than whatever they use for HD programming.

Ahhhhhh.... Now I get the response. He thought we meant that we wanted him to show the old eps on HDNET. Just the fact that he considered them from the start means that either he likes the show himself or somebody else close to him does and suggested it already.
Maybe I'll try my hand at writing him an email then.
Edit: Now that I understand his response, I'm still a little foggy on the original intent of this thread myself. Was the intent to get him to play the old eps on HDNET or was it to possibly have new funding for another go at the show. He's got a bazillion dollars and could theoretically obtain the rights if he so desired.

I believe the new funding for another go at the show is the main intent.
This is a wonderful idea... I'm writing.
What can it hurt?
And maybe it'll help. Who knows maybe the guy is a real Joss Whedon fan and would want to contribute to Joss' continuing the story.

Just a random thought to put out there concerning Mark's response.
Universal chose Serenity to be their FIRST EVER DVD to be offered in HD. Why? It's the quality of the graphics, the lush cinematography, and the overall presentation.
New episodes could, and should, be along this quality.
Pointing this out to Mark could be a selling point. That, and the Browncoats...

Universal HD already show Firefly in high definition in the States so even if Mark wanted to air Firefly, he couldn't. I would imagine Universal HD have the rights to show it for a number of years on their channel.

Ahh yes, the browncoats...
A couple hundred thousand gauranteed viewers and buyers of DVDs and merchandise.
I don't see a downside to this idea.

The graphics were created on tape.
I had wondered about that but Universal seem convinced the footage was of high enough quality to upgrade to HD.
It does look mighty pretty in HD...

Has anyone else written about new episodes? Anyone?

I've got a bit all drafted...it just occured to me that I might want to send it in for approval before mailing it to this guy. I'm a bit bushed right now, and I'm afraid I sound it.
I certianly plagerized a lot from previous posts, but I refuse to admit that's a problem (I'm tired, and it's not as if Mark Cuban is reading this thread). Anyway, I'm grumpy but hopeful (oxymoron, maybe) and here's the letter.
Dear Mark,
The banner for HDNet says that your company produces more entertainment programming than any other domestic network. If this is true, then I'd like to encourage you to check out the canceled TV series Firefly and subsequent movie Serenity. Even five years after Firefly's untimely demise, the show's fan base is still going strong, and we'd always love to have new episodes.
As you probably already know, Universal studios chose Serenity to be their first ever DVD offered in HD. Why? It's the quality of the graphics, the lush cinematography, and the overall presentation. New episodes could, and should, be along this quality.
I know you're always looking for great HDNet programming, and I hope you consider Firefly and Serenity.
Thank you.
