17 times the distance between the Earth and Sun a near miss? Hardly, a lot of sizable rocks have passed a LOT closer than that in recent years and nobody has batted an eylid.
Plenty of good reasons to go to an asteroid and do some science but this just looks like another lazy hack regurgitating some second hand information to fill some column space. Now I wonder what the NASA website actually says about Apophis.
