i forget off the top of my head which episode the captain's toilet is shown in but in his cabin there is a scene with a toilet flush and he folds the toilet up into the wall and unfolds a sink from the wall to wash his hands...
i need specs on that toilet system... has anyone ever seen this kind of thing in real life?
does anyone know what it might be called or have pictures of it.
happy flushing...

What really bothers me about that scene-Every Time I See It--is that he doesn't use soap when he washes his hands and then washes his face! Gross!
Good luck!

What bothers me is that I see people walk into a restroom and not wash their hands... BEFORE.. they touch...you know..private parts..That is why you can catch the common cold by giving oral. Sad but true!
WASH...GO....WASH AGAIN.....

i noticed that too but dismissed it as futuristic sanitizing water. why not... drinking water from one tank. washing water from another... and both get drained into a tank that is then used as gray water for the toilet.
i still want some sort of specs/schematics for that system... once both sink and toilet are folded up can you stand in that space and take a shower...?

Nope, no shower (like the 5th Element) from the looks of it both take up half the wall space.
anyway, according to the script (the one in the Visual Companion anyway) the only baths are sponge, and on most deckplans there is only one shower, and thats in the passenger bit.
So saying the mudders smell is one thing, but what about our big damn heros!!! (j/k)

That would be the pilot eps. Right before Wash calls Mal up to the bridge after finding the alliance mole onboard has sent a message to an alliance ship.
There was a thread on the forum here some time back that brought up the idea of what kind of luxuries crews of small vessels in space would have. Espescially small vessels on the outer rim. Water and the amout of space huge water tanks would take up and the extra fuel it would take to get a heavy water lugging ship into space all comes into the equation. The thoughts of water and the value of its use had folks thinking that it would be used only in small amounts. Chemical cleansing agents and even cleansing towels could be used in place of using up ones valuable water supply. These are some that I remember.

I'm a nurse, and we have fold up toilets under the washbasins in the ICU. They don't get used much, as many patients are so critically ill they are not able to get out of bed. They do look similar to Mal's, but the washbasins are stationary.

The best deck plans I've found are in the Serenity RPG.

From those earlier threads about water tanks I remember that there *is* a shower head in the captain's cabin. You can see it during Our Mrs. Reynolds. And iirc, the math worked out that just a 1000 gallon tank could last the crew for several weeks before factoring in any grey water or recycling. I think it was up to 6 weeks with reasonably strict rationing and longer with REALLY strict rationing.
