I voted early this morning.
I was up anyway cause of the idiot Dem suporters shouting and marching around on the corner waving "Stop Bush" signs... As if he were even on the ballot.
If I wasn't already registered Republican, Id have changed over this season if for no other reason than to disassociate myself from the hysterics.
God I wished I had a paint ball machine gun this morning... I had a perfect shot from my bedroom window.
I am _N_O_T_ a morning person.
I put on a tie-dye t-shirt, sweats, sneakers w/ no socks. The idiots marching didn't blink when I walked in to vote. People dressed in suits got dirty looks and shouts...
Yah, the DEMS are the ones being intimidated at poling places?!?!?!?

Always! Ok I forgot one year that I would be out of town on Election Day when it was too late to cast an absentee ballot, but other than that I've always voted and take it seriously. My state is one of the few that is requiring a paper trail of the ballots so we went from electronic machines to a piece of paper where you fill in circles. It felt like I was taking a test (especially since I vote at a school) but it is good to know there is a paper record of my vote.

This discussion reminds me of a Robert Heinlein story, a non-sf humor piece about a local election in post-WWII middle America. It was, among other things, a catalog of dirty pre-election PR tricks.
It culminated with the underdog side in a machine-controlled city countering a series of dirty tricks by the incumbent with a few dirty tricks of their own. The one that stick in my minds is hiring a bunch of bums out of the railyard (that's how old the story is; you could still call them "bums"...), feeding them each a limburger-and-sardine sandwich, handing each a pile of leaflets for the incumbent, and sending them out for some door knocking and up-close discussion with the voting public. "Listen pal, you wouldn't like what would happen if this district doesn't vote right, not with your car parked right out on the street like that, you get my drift?"
Myself, I don't see much difference between the Republicrats and the Demagogs, but I voted today, oh yes. Got to renew my "Right To Bitch" license, Y'know.

Someone from another site I'm on sent me this link which is a report on voting problems - machines and human - rather interesting.

I heard a report that more people are voting absentee bc they are concerned about their votes being counted correctly. I voted manually by ballot - partly because the lines for the machine were so long and partly bc I'm not sure I trust them.
And yes, what how we vote in the US does affect the rest of the world. Guess we really all are connected.

I went and read the online literature for each candidate for each position, including the real lunatics like the Rent is Too Damn High party.
Then I weighed who had a clear plan, experience, and ability, and would not create boondoggle govt in my face, and who might actually bring jobs to this area. The winner was usually the republican, but like auraptor, there were a couple libertarian votes in there.
Clearly, the democrats motivated their own mindless hoards (the 'I always pull the blue level' crowd) - by witness of this fact, check out Hillary's vote total, or Spitzer's. (my local dems call him the 'police state' vote.)
Anyway, Democrats won everything. Now, for everyone on Team Blue there is a brief feeling of euphoria because you beat the bad guy. Not the globalists, Bush et al. the regular run of the mill local republicans. In fact, odds favor that you kicked a moderate republican out, rather than a core bushy.
That feeling will fade, and reality will set in, "you" didn't win, your team won, just as "you" don't win against the Mets, the Yankees win against the mets... and in time we'll see exactly what it is they've won.
Either they democrats do have a plan, and they enact that plan, and it succeeds in helping the economy, recovering world opinion, etc. Or they don't, in which case, there will probably be a deadlock, unless they impeach Bush, which they should. Of course, an impeachment of Bush will never go through unless they are willing to make a deal with the republicans to have a neutral figure such as Powell take the helm. (He's served in both republican and democratic administration, I guess that makes him neutral)
I'm naturally a little uneasy with the results, I think that a lot of good people, with no real connection to the president, suffered because of hatred of Bush - but I'm willing to give the democrats the benefit of the doubt and see if they can pull something together.

More than anything I hope there are bona fide investigations into the Bush administration, something that would NEVER happen under republican rule. So that's one thing a democratic majority in both houses could get you - justice. At least an accounting. And that's worth something.
Unfortunately, for Democrats to get anywhere fixing the country back up, they'd have to have a 2/3 majority in both houses. Even IF they had a simple majority in both (which may or may not happen), anything they might want to do would get vetoed by ... Bush.

You can't make your national decisions on local interests. Local interests are what local politicians are for. And mid-terms are generally thought as referenda on the existing administration.
