Totally off-topic tennis rant.

I am a tennis fan. I play tennis with my brother quite a bit, and we have enjoyed watching pro tennis for many years.

Today I found out that John McEnroe took horse steroids for 6 years during his professional tennis stint. John McEnroe maintains that he didn't know that he was taking drugs. That someone else must have given them to him, without him knowing, for 6 years.

I thought about this and came to a conclusion. There are only 2 possibilities. Either John McEnroe took those drugs (horse steroids by the way, that were found later to be too strong for horses) and he is lying through his teeth, or he is too damn stupid to recognize the presence of an immensely powerful drug in his system.

Which do I think it is? Not a clue. All I am sure of though is that he is definitely stupid, and definitely was a bad druggie. I used to have respect for McEnroe for being a stand-up-for-your-rights kind of guy, (I'm sure everyone is somewhat familiar with his tennis tantrums) but he is a commentator now, so I don't think I'll have the sound on anymore when I watch pro tennis.

He'll probably keep lying untill someone tells him owning up will get him into the Tennis Hall of Fame or something... (If there is such a thing)

I can't deny being a little disappointed. It takes the shine off all those McEnroe/Connors encounters I so enjoyed (being a leftie (or southpaw, if you prefer) myself).

Being purely selfish, I don't dislike him any more in himself, just sad that my good memories can be tarnished with such realities.

I have to say if he really did take steroids, it didn't show. I remember him as being rather wiry.
Then again, the man's got a bit of a temper.
