I've been a fan since it was first aired on Fox, so I guess Fall of 2002
I have purchased at least a dozen sets (I have two in the house right now) of Firefly DVDs, probably more...
I know I've made at least 5 converts, I think I've made many more (my gifted DVD sets did get passed around pretty widely)
I first discovered Firefly when it was reported that Joss Whedon would have a new show on the air, I made sure I watched every episode.

1. Only for about 6 months. I discopvered it at work around that time and watched it.
2. 4... or 5.. Its what my friends wanted so I got it for them
3. 10 or 15... Somewhere around there.
4. My dad told me I should watch it. I watched the Movie first, and was SOOOO lost.
So, I watched the series.Zoe: Take me, sir. Take me hard.

4. I saw Serenity in the theatre and raved about it. 2 months later, one of my friends who remembered my raving, discovered that it was based on some canceled TV show called "Firefly".

(Optional) Just for fun, how did you first discover Firefly? like I said before, I was Buffy fan, but when Firefly aired, I already had too many TV shows that I watched (I actually taped them at a friend's house because I only get one channel..NBC...at home. It wasn't right to ask the friend's to tape another show). Then after Caleb's appearance, I didn't WANT to watch Firefly...I didn't like Caleb one bit.
Fast forward to January of this year, me with a seriously broken arm that just wouldn't heal. Just the about the only thing I was allowed to do was sit on the couch all day. I had made my way through Buffy and Angel...AGAIN and decided I needed more Joss and that I would give Firefly a chance.
Boy was I mad at myself for 1) not watching in the first place 2)waiting so long to give it a shot 3) missing Serenity in the theaters...course I didn't even know there was a movie...great ad campaign, that.

A friend wanted to see 'Serenity,' b/c he'd heard good things about it. Neither of us had ever seen the series, but were vaguely aware that one had existed. I went with him to the film and was completely blown away by it.
I immediately bought the Firefly dvd set, books, comics, etc. And after I finished with all of that I bought all of Angel. And after I finished that I bought all of Buffy. Well, you get the idea...

I was looking up info on BSG, Buck Rogers and such, and kept stumbling upon the name Firefly. I got an HMV gift certificate for christmas and bought the set on a whim. Spent every Sat. from then on with my wife and our friends watching 2-3 episodes.
Hooked from the opening theme song. Bought the advanced tickets for the movie.
Actually, when I found out it was by the same guy that did Buffy, I almost put it back on the shelf.
