Theories on Inara

O.K. I've read the thread about Book maybe working for hte Blue Sun. But after watching Out of Gas with the Commentary on. It Tim Minear says that he knows some secrets about Inara's character (obviously) but won't reveal even though David Solomon asks him too, because it might be revealed in another format (the movie hopefully). My question is what is the big secrect about Inara. I remember the thread about the theories on the needle and all that stuff. But to me the way Minear talked was that she has some sort of connection to Mal beyond just renting the shuttle. It's pretty obvious they are in love with each other but won't admit it to one another.
I've been trying the think about what that connection could be for that past couple of days. Minear says that there are little clues about who Inara really is throughout the whole series and that you could probably figure it out if you paid close enough attention.
O.K. now I'm just gonna shoot out a random thought or two.
1. Inara says shes likes something with a little mileage on it. Which could lead one to believe that she is older than appearances would indicate. (I've seen this theory pointed out by others.)
2. Maybe she isn't "just" and Companion, what else she could be I don't know, maybe working with the Blue Sun. But then that goes against here support of unification.
3. She seems to have a very deep affection for Serenity, second only to Mal and Kaylee. Has she been on a Firefly before, could Serenity have been Inara's before Mal bought it.
4. Could Inara and Mal be related somehow? I know, I know Star Wars syndrome there.
Guess that's enough for now. Time to watch some more and see if I can dig anything else out. Any thoughts from anyone else?
