I know the old one's not that long, but given that all 80-odd posts happened in a shortish space of time, I'm starting a new thread just to prevent that one being overloaded. So, new ponderance: Given the length of the trans-oceanic flight from Australia to the USA, am I better off forking out a heap of money for a first-class seat (and thus plenty of comfort, especially in regards to elbow/leg space), or should i just go with the cheap seat (which may be uncomfortable and surrounded by bratty kids, in order to have more cashy money at my disposal to spend on swag and/or general living costs?

edit: and I am aware of what the song title translates to in English (at least, the translation according to http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr )

Hmmm, I'm all about comfort, but I like having money to spend. It's definitely something to ponder. How about buying the coach ticket, and then sneak up to 1st class and telling some great firefighting stories.

Long flight - spend the money on comfort. Upgrade, and you get better seats, better food and better film choices.

Though even in business class, you can get the little bastards. We had three little Montessori Euro-poppets on the way back from Oman. Telling them not to climb on the seats or throw up on folks just 'repressed their creativity'. Personally, I think they should have been sedated and put in the hold for the duration.

Note: If a steward accidently spills your champagne on you in business, if you are very nice about it, they just keep refilling your glass gratis.

No, really, I don't. Y'all know I'm not a fan of drunkeness.
I'm not going to put in my opinion because I'm biased. My questions are "Which would get you here soonest?" and "Which would allow you to stay longer?" and the answer to both is cheap seats. But that's me being selfish...

Sorry, PR, just my personal experience. I am really not in favour of the type of person who gets trollied while flying.

Morning, Imponderable-ers!

Nico, I have never traveled that far...my longest air trip was somewhere around 12 or 13 hours. I would personally opt for the business class...moer cashy money for when you arrive! And even if it does get a bit stressful, there is always that fine and dandy little alcohol cart they push around!
No, PR, I am not suggesting he get drunk...I am suggesting that kids always have a drink in front of them...a few well-placed splashes of rum...no more kid problems!

Nico - it's a long flight, but I suggest saving your money for when you get here.I always hate being put on a tight budget on vacation.But I'm used to annoying children .

See now I and my siblings were taken on airplanes regularly and my mom was very strict about our behavior. She made sure we sat together and had games and snacks and such and kept us busy, but she made it clear we were to be quiet and stay in our seats. Always timed the flight round nap time for when we were younger so we'd sleep the flight away. She'd also give us warm milk and chamomile right before take off so we'd be out the whole time. I think there's no excuse for ill behaved kids on a plane. If the parent carefully chooses flight time for when the kids are at their best and makes sure they have everything they need...there's no reason for badly behaved kids

I totally agree with you.My boys, although they can be annoying (like any other kids) know when & how to behave.Like in stores or restaurants.Their grandmothers say I'm strict, but my children are well behaved.And Dylan even says thank you without being told to !It amazes me every time.
