Shiney! Is it just Minnesota, or is everyone part of some "fringe" type element? My husband is a member of the Royal Guard (Renaissance - we met there), one-time member of Clan Tartan, etc. Everyone I know is a member of some artistic/recreation type society - well, except for me - I just sew. Very cool!
As for how special we have it in this state - we know
Oh boy do we know!
******OOPS!! Double-post - sticky connection today, I guess.

If you mean the MCSC, yup, it's Minnesota only, not an off shoot of a national organization. The charter goal was to bring representatives from all the clans in Minnesota together in one place in order to create a strong Scottish presence. Several members were instrumental in developing the Minnesota Tartan and they're also involved in planning the new Minnesota Scottish Fair to replace the MacAlester Scottish Country Fair. Clann Tartan holds an associate membership with the MCSC. I'm a Fest Playtron, but also helped out at the MCSC tent on Highland Fling weekend.
The Ramble is fairly new, I think. Yet another opportunity to hear bagpipe music, buy an Iron Brew (kind of like gingerale with a bite) and see men in kilts.

Jahzara bebe! My resource for all things Cadian. I'll have to take some shots of the snow we got this week. It is pretty to look at - to get off your driveway and/or vehicle? Not so much.

Good Grief! You spend the day shoveling and the whole thread gets away from you.
Sorry, Knibblet, but I have to agree with Channain on the street controversy. Being from the Minneapolis side, I fully admit to not having a clue how to get anywhere in St. Paul. I've done the delivery thing all over town and I had to use my map book a heck of a lot more on the St. Paul streets. Everything over here is nicely blocked out and alphabetical. Much easier.
As for the buildings, I think we both have it made. The downtowns are both a picturesque sight to see. We really do need more post cards.
I may not have any Scot in me, but my husband and I make it to the Renn Fest every year. Usually in costume, but this last year we had to pass due to the extremely hot weather. (Being 6 months pregnant and in a hot corset and thick material just doesn't cut it.) We even had the pleasure of attending a Dew Drop wedding. The yellow Dew Drop Juggler (Mick) married one of my husband's coworkers. Hanging with him is always interesting. (The man takes a yo-yo with him everywhere. Amazing stuff.)
So in closing, may we revel in our similarities and celebrate our differences! It's always good to be Minnesotan!

Hey, did any of you Minnesotans go to the NHL All-Star weekend? I was watching the Hockey Night In Canada telecast and it had some great shots of the ice castle that's built in St. Paul!
Is it really made completely out of ice? -shiny

Being from west central MN, I'm not quite the "puckhead" that I probably should be. We didn't even have a high school team where I grew up.
Yup, the ice palace was made entirely of ice blocks. The don't get to do it very often due to the enormous cost - and the last one (1987, I believe?) was prettier, in my opinion, but it was nice to see one go up again. There's also ice sculpting competitions, and those are gorgeous.

Ooh, thank you so much, Knibblet and Channain. Photos are much appreciated. I'm remembering now how much *fun* it was waking up in the morning and unburying the car. But still...Home.
Source for all things Cadian. Really? I'm blushing.
Minnesota really does have the coolest people. I am going to come back one day. I mean, y'all have the Mall of America. I'm ruined for any other.
