Even though I got mine through amazon, I am also a member of the Science Fiction Book Club, and they are also offering it. For anyone else who belongs to that club, check out the current front page, where they feature the Companion down toward the bottom of the page in the Altiverse section. If you click on the link for the book you will see a review I just uploaded for it. For those not members there, here's what I said:

Browncoats Rejoice!

Whether you are a Browncoat tried and true, or just now discovering the wonders of the Firefly 'Verse, this is a book to treasure. Each of the nine main actors gets a full page photo, with another page full of their reminiscences of how they learned of the show, their audition, personal thoughts about their character, etc. Also included are the full scripts to the first six episodes, not just transcripts of the finished product. These include full scenes and bits of dialog cut from the broadcasts, most likely for reasons of time or pacing. I have not read all of them yet (although I have previously read several of them online) but I have looked at every other feature of this book, and I'm sure I will be returning to it many more times in the future. The only complaint I have is that this is just Volume One, and the Joss Whedon interview is only a portion of the whole, which we will have to wait for next spring. I am hoping SFBC also offers it at that time.

This brief review is excerpted from my full review on my site - http://templetongate.net/firefly-companion1.htm

I was just on Amazon.com and I was searching for Vol. 2. I know I had seen it before, but when I looked recently it is no longer there.

I was able to find it on the UK Amazon site ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Firefly-Official-Companion-v-2/dp/1845763726), but not on the typical Amazon.com. Anyone have any news on the release of Vol. 2?

I got mine from Amazon.co.uk a couple of weeks ago - only took them 2 days to deliver \o/ It's very shiny

Re: whether it's in stores - I've certainly seen it in Borders and Forbidden Planet in Glasgow, so it _is_ available.

Re: the 2nd, I believe it's been slated for early 2007; Amazon say 23rd March 2007, although their dates can be somewhat flexible ;)

Just picked up Vol. 1 at Borders. I can die happy now. Mighty fine costume reference.....

Plus, point of interest, I initially tried to find it in the sci-fi section (turns out it was in the TV Reference section instead). And tucked neatly between a couple of oversized Star Wars reference books, what should I see but: "The Complete Book of Dinosaurs."

Hmm....wonder if there's a Browncoat on staff there....

I found it in the TV/Performing Arts section of the local B. Dalton.

And what really bites about the whole thing is that the second volume isn't out until SPRING!!!

I found my own shiny copy about a month ago in a Borders though I would have ordered it online if I hadn't found it. I could hardly wait to get it home and read it. It is a must have for any fan of the 'Verse with all the gorgeous photos of the cast and a full page of character profiles, scripts of the first half of the series and lots of fun extras like costumes and Mal's pistol and Browncoat as well as Zoe's vest. I can't wait for the next volume though I agree we have to wait quite a bit for it. I can't wait to see what that book has in store, like the other scripts and a page on Vera! Hmmm well till then I will keep watching and keep reading and hoping for more things to come. Firefly is far from dead and buried and we Browncoats can keep it that way.
