In a recent thread PirateNews, well known for his crazy talk, driving while intoxicated, and tinfoil hats, posted several pictures depicting children bound and in apparent distress.

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=18&t=24340

First, of all I want to note that such images have no place in a civil discussion on any topic. I will not be reproducing them here.

Second, such images are in violation of Federal Law.

Quote:

2)(A) Except as provided in subparagraph (B), "sexually
explicit conduct" means actual or simulated -
(i) sexual intercourse, including genital-genital,
oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, whether between
persons of the same or opposite sex;
(ii) bestiality;
(iii) masturbation;
(iv) sadistic or masochistic abuse; or
(v) lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of
any person;

Clearly pictures of children bound and in obvious distress regardless of being real or staged violates section (iv) above.

Section 2251 of the US Code bars the use of children for: "any sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing any visual depiction of such conduct,

Further 2251A makes it a crime to: "1) knowingly mails, or transports or ships in interstate or foreign commerce by any means, including by computer, any child pornography;"

AND MOST IMPORTANT TO FFF.NET, Section 2251A2 makes it a crime for the folk who run our beloved Firefly fansite to: "2) knowingly receives or distributes -
(A) any child pornography that has been mailed, or shipped or
transported in interstate or foreign commerce by any means,
including by computer; or
(B) any material that contains child pornography that has
been mailed, or shipped or transported in interstate or foreign
commerce by any means, including by computer;"

Lastly, Section 2258 requires me to report this to the FBI, which I have done. Actually its the local Ohio law which mirrors that Federal law...but I digress.

Anyway, thought you'd all want to know.

So, Zero - YOU LOOKED !

Now, I believe that while PN is entirely sincere he is significantly deluded, and so, sad to say, I just scroll.

But you looked. Tell me, how long did you look?

So we have someone on-board (Hero) who will defend to the death the right of an adult to "groom" and harass the underaged but who will inform the FBI about posted pix.

Nice.

Hypocritical, but nice.

Didn't see that post, so I can't discuss as to what was posted. However 1 question I do have....

Why does a Dem Congressman ( Gerry Studds ) admit to having sex w/ a 17 yr old male page, keeps his Congressional seat and even gets re-elected, but when it's a Republican ( Mark Foley) sending naughty IM's to a 16 yr old male page, immediatly resigns has now become the target for Dems and their phony cries of 'save the children'.

Where's the consitancy ?

And Signym, if what HERO posted is indeed accurate, how can you in any way chide him for pointing out that what PN did was not only wrong, but possibly illegal ? I don't know where you get the notion that HERO would 'defend to the death' anything near what you claim, but is that as far as your concern goes for what PN has done? Seems to me, if you had any sincerity in what you say, you'd congratulate HERO for his 'outing' of P.N.

For the record, I'm glad Foley resigned, and that he's not my Congressman.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerry_Studds

In 1983 Studds (D) ... and Dan Crane (R) were censured by the House of Representatives for separate sexual relationships with a minor – in Studds's case, a 1973 relationship with a 17-year-old male congressional page who was of the age of legal consent.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Congressional_page_sex_scandal

He called a press conference with the former page, in which both stated that the young man was legal and consenting. Studds did not break any U.S. laws for that time, in what he and page called a "private relationship."[1] He continued to be reelected until his retirement in 1996.[2]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Crane

After his 1982 re-election, Crane was charged with having a sexual relationship ... with an underage female congressional page and was censured by the House in 1983. Crane plead guilty to the charge and issued profuse, tearful apologies. He was defeated for re-election in 1984.

Thanks, Hero. Good information.

I've found that even scrolling or page downing through PN's posts, I've seen far more than I ever wanted to see.

I don't think that adults should be having sex with teenagers. My personal feeling is that sexual relationships should be between people who are more or less equal. Teenagers, altho they may be of the "age of consent" simply do not have equal legal standing. They can't get jobs, vote, drink, enter into contracts, get health insurance, or do many of the other things that a full adult can do. Their brains are still chemically developing (up to about the age of 19) and their frontal lobes (the part where judgment resides) are still undeveloped. Furthermore, they are often sorely lacking in real-life experience and may still be deferring to authority or unable to draw boundaries.

Sex with people who aren't legal equals, with the mentally impaired, or when one partner has a natural disadvantage (such as bigamy) just smacks of exploitation and pushes certain buttons with me.

I'm not sure about the Studds case, but if that happened while the page was working for him, seems that would be a very winnable case of sexual harassment at the very least. If that happened afterwards... well, IMHO when very much older people have sex with teenagers it says something very negative about that person, whether it was legal or not.

As far as Foley is concerned, the fact that he was co-chair of Missing and Exploited Children, pushed vigorously for the Communications Decency Act (which BTW set the age at 16) and in general went on and on about protecting children, family values and all that just bespeaks a level of hypocracy that boggles the mind.

As far as PN is concerned- he mostly posts crap- but I'm sure the FBI would consider this chaff and a waste of their time.

rue - kudos for providing the particulars. Dunno what, if any laws Foley has broken, that remains to be seen. Just glad he's out of Congress.

Bingo, Signym. It's clear Foley was simply trying to pad his political resume and appeal to his core constituents. Sadly, that's how the game is played, both sides of the aisle are guitly. What remains to be seen is how many actual physical encounters Foley has had while in Congress,and with how many different pages. My spidey sense is telling me that Foley didn't resign over something as embarrassing but trivial as IM's.
