I agree that we can't give up in Iraq. I agree with his fiscal philosophy but not it's execution. I like his stance on most domestic polocies(mostly due to what the leftist alternative is). There are many things this administration has done that I have disagreed with (The USA PATRIOT Act, deficit spending, torture bill, etc.) But I have never heard a alterantive that I liked better. Ussually the "other way" involves going even further away from my basic political philosophy. So I support Bush because I don't like the alternative.

Hornslongtx...how about an alternative to torture like say....not torturing? How about an alternative to deficit spending like um, not deficit spending? How about not invoking something as draconian and unamerican, as the Patriot Act, and instead adhering to American values?...I mean how elaborate an alternative are you looking for?
Those alternatives sound better to me, and they are in line with most if not all of the liberal alternative you speak of.

I would love to, if I only knew what the alternative was. I might occasionally seem ambivalent and ambiguous about my political leanings, but that's mostly because I hate being pigeon-holed. I pick my battles on based on issues not politicians or personalities. I might lean right on one issue, left on another.
Is Bush Satan incarnate? No.
Was Gore or Kerry an Archangel? I really don't think so.
Here's the thing. Neither the Republican nor the Democratic Parties are what they once were. Neither Conservatism nor Liberalism as they are presented to us now are what they are supposed to be. The "Right" and the "Left" are vague descriptions which once were clear visions. I believe the Two Party System has failed us miserably.
The missing alternative has variously been made up of minor parties whose chances of winning that few take seriously. There are too many cronies and clubs and lobbies afoot. Is the nation polarized? You betcha. Is there an option that might bridge the gap? Not yet. I really think there needs to be. Maybe it's the Libertarians. Maybe it's someone else. The Reform Party might have had a chance because they didn't work well within the system, but who were they besides larger than lifers? The Green Party too special interest to work. The Independent Party? Where have they been lately?
Let the little guys run. Everybody was getting all over Nader for "stealing" votes. Please. Both elections should have been runaways, but it turned into a lesser of two evils coin toss. Florida should have been a non-issue. Whut th' people saw in Dubya was single-mindedness (single folks, not simple...), whut they saw in his opponents was a lack of credibility. Gore didn't have Willy's willy waggin' swagger and Kerry chameleoned too much.
Joss needs to run. Or Mal4Prez.

Well, I was gone for a few days and now I have to run off somewhere else.
What does support Bush mean? It means thinking that, overall, Bush is better than worse. It's not about whether Bush is better than than X person, or worse than Y person. It's about grading Bush himself on a scale of good <-> bad.
So for example, someone who posts roughly 20 slightly to highly supportive Bush comments for every slightly negative one on this board could fairly be said to be a Bush supporter.
What I want to know is WHY. Bush has many failings AND failures. I suspect Bushites either 1) deny them, 2) minimize them, or 3) truly don't care about them, because they are more focused on certain specific things they approve. That's what I want to know.

Then maybe I don't support Bush. I'm usually responding to a "Bush is Total Evil bent on World Domination!" post with an "Oh, he's not that bad." post. I just get tired of the wild accusations sometimes, and have to say so.

Quite a bit, actually. I voted Libertarian in the last two presidential elections, for example. I believe your stereotyping is showing through.

I support Bush because even though he's a communist in Repuglican clothing, he's just a little closer to the middle than Marx and the Demoncrats fall somewhere in between.

I support Bush because the Liberitarian party will never win the election and that makes me sad.
I support Bush because MTV doesn't, and unless you're looking for hot girls to play the slap banjo to, MTV sucks now.
But most importantly, I support Bush because all of my government bashing is going to catch up to me real quick once he finally puts the brakes on that pesky "Freedom of Speech" thingy and they throw me in a cell in the Ministry of Love and throw away the key.
