back about ten years , same time ds9 came out, there was a short lived series called"space rangers"...on fox i think. ...don't know how many they aired, not many, but they had style and charm, rough,crude very anti star trek slickness.

Space Rangers - ran for just about 8 or 9 episodes. Written (or produced, I forget - or at least I try) by the guy who did Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves (Pen Densham?)

Appalling effects, cliched stories and poor acting - all forgiven because the main actor was Jeff Cake (I think there was a different spelling, but I'm ignoring it). Had Claudia Christian in one episode. Still have a video of a few of the episodes I think.

"Space Rangers" was on CBS I believe mid-season 1993, and CBS aired the pilot last, if I recall correctly. Because they were geniuses. And unfortunately, like "Probin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (which was ripped off from Kip Carpenter's 1983 TV series 'Robin of Sherwood' right down to the Saracen and Will Scarlet being a psycho--and I believe that Kip used and won, come to think of it.), "Space Rangers" was pretty much ripped off almost directly from both "Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers" and "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future."

Ah, Pen Densham. How I do love your complete and utterlack of an original concept EVER in your entire television & film career.

(I actually watched "Space Rangers" for Majorie Monahanan, because I'd loved her QL guest-spot... And I remember wanting to rip PD's arm off and beat him to death with it.)

I can't believe only one person has mentioned Babylon 5. If you like DS9, you'll probably like B5 as well-----they've got some superficial similarities.

Babylon 5 is, quite simply, the most epic television show ever made.

The first season is kind of blah, but after that, it really picks up, and redefines the genre.

I think B5, FF, and Stargate are my favorite shows at the moment.......

ALSO, check out the new series Joan of Arcadia. Its not really scifi per se, but its very well written---the dialog is almost Whedon-esque. CBS, Fridays at 8. (Hey...that sounds...familiar....)

Aditionally, although its not scifi by any stretch of the imagination, anyone who hasn't seen 24-----get season 1 on DVD. I know its a Fox show, but it really is worth it. (The reason I say DVD is, 24 is the only show I know which is more arc-heavy than Babylon 5.)

Regarding Earth: Final Conflict-----season 1 was excellent. Seasons 2-4 weren't quite as good, but still served for some passable entertainment. Season 5 is an abomination, don't watch it.

Has anyone not mentioned quantum leap? good god people! good acting, nice stories, ok it was not arc relatedand i usually love stuff with arcs it was a good feel good show with a lot of fun :)
