Oooh! Pancakes!

Do you guys have pancake Tuesday in the US? It's something celebrated in Ireland the Tuesday before the Christian holy day Ash Wednesday. That marks 40 days of fasting - which these days usually means giving up sugar in your tea or chocolate or something. So pancake Tuesday is a day of feasting on pancakes, syrup, honey, chocolate and anything gooey and yummy

It's even more fun if you're non-Christian, as you don't have the 40 days of penance afterwards

I have never participated in such a thing, but then again I haven't been a Christian for several years now and even when I was we didn't really adhere to the practice of Lent. It sure sounds like a good way to spend a Tuesday though.

EDIT: I had a comic to share with everyone, mainly because of one line that I think you will all recognize (I hope this works):

Yeah, it became a national thing here as up until recently most people in Ireland were Catholic. So pretty much every family, even the ones that were a bit so-so about the religion, would take part. It's kind of kept on as a tradition. I think it's also the same tradition that lead to Mardi Gras (sp?)

Plus, you know. Pankcakes! There is no bad here.

Fruit is getting to be too expensive here. First we had a hurricane wipe out most of the bananna plantations, then the dry winter and usual bushfires has ruined a lot of the stone fruits. So it almost seems like we're down to a few apples (of which the quality isn't too great) and some berries (but they're kinda low-quality as well).

If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

*grabs a couple of Penguin's yummy pancakes from this morning and pops them in the microwave*
Hmmmmm, pancakes.
Speaking of traditions - I have a friend that celebrates Sunday Sundaes every year. He felt August needed a holiday, so on the first Sunday in August, he and his family get different flavors of ice cream and different toppings. They invite friends over to celebrate Sunday Sundaes. It's HOT here in Arizona especially in August, so Sunday Sundaes is something to look forward to during the summer.
