Well i have a couple questions which have just bothered me to no end, im sure you've answered them but there buried deep with in the archives...

First off...

How the heck did Early get into serenity. How could we have never known about this top side mini air lock, and from the way it open/closes it really doesnt look like an airlock, more like he just popped it open and floated in...

And secondly...

When River is reading everyones minds, books "thought" was "I dont give half a hump if your innocent or not, so where does that put you." Who is he talking about? Jane or River? and man is he ever scary when he says it...

Interesting question. I've only watched Firefly once in it's entirity so I'm probably not qualified to put my two cents in. But that wouldn't be my nature, so here it goes anyways....

I didn't notice the airlock situation that you mentioned. I love spotting things like this in movies/TV, but my brother is much better than me at it.

And about the whole scene where River is "reading everyone's mind"... I myself didn't think that is what was going on here, although she's probably perfectly capable of doing that. When I saw that I was thinking more along the lines of Carrie, covered in pig's blood, hearing her mother repeat "They're all gonna laugh at you!" over and over and over again, while at the same time seeing everone laughing at her. In reality, aside from the few morons who played the prank, nobody was laughing at her and they were all mortified that somebody would have done something so horrible to her. I thought this was just a psychotic episode she was having where she actually heard the voices of the people around her in her mind saying things that she may, deep down in her scared and paranoid mind, think her crewmates really think about her.

Just my thought. It's surely open for debate.

The airlock - it's the same one River and Simon use to leave and enter the ship hiding from the Alliance troopers in "Bushwhacked".

And River's read on Book? If you notice, she 'heard' something that Jayne had said in a previous episode (Ariel), and with Simon it was something he said several minutes later in the current episode. So "she was reading things, but not at the right time" is a widely held conclusion. And a lot of people feel that her reading of Book was from long ago, before he became a Shepherd. An Alliance military General? A judge? Member of the Senate? Lots of possibilities.

Yeah, what DarkJester said, in terms of Book. There are two looooong threads discussing what Book's line might have meant. A few theory threads about Inara mention hers as well, thinking that came from her past rather than actually relating to Mal. Mal's seemed to come from his past, too. "None of it means a damn thing." Bitter, defeated, post-war Mal. It gives a look at the past, a backstory that I bet would just keep developing over the years. You know, if we'd gotten years.
The airlock, though, was not the same one Simon and River used, because that one was not right next to the bunks. They didn't use the huge airlock, but when they get back on the ship, they're not right off a hallway. Was it the galley? I think it was the galley.
So there are a few airlocks on Serenity. I mean, she's not a small ship. Probably best to be able to get out at several points for whatever reason you might have to get out. And Early didn't just float in, because there was definite air-rushing sounds, like an airlock sealing and pressurizing itself.
Remember the show was very short-lived. We never got all the details of Serenity. She, like all the characters, was slowly being explored and unveiled.

Ya im going to have to agree with darkjester and phenoix about rivers mind reading to a degree. I had just finished watching all the episodes with commentary, and joss says something to the extent of "there she is reading minds/thoughts" the exact words escape me...when she is walking around the ship. Though i cant completly agree with reading at the right time

When the episode starts, she awakes to that whispering, and those are Earlys thoughts (as said by joss in the commentary) as well as when she "reads" simon, mal, inara, and janes thoughts those seemed to be perfectly timed thoughts as she entered the room they would think that, but books...i mean what the heck. Can anyone bump the book quote threads i would like to read through them.

Book could very well be talking about anyone, mabye he is thinking once again about being his general/assasin self (i think book was the same type of guy as that one black guy from the movie) and wanting to get rid of Jane. But Pheonix yours makes perfect sense mabye he was thinking about a past interogation or something of the sort...damn...bring back firefly! NOW

Those ideas, the mind reading and all must be right if Joss said that that's what it is, but I like the Carrie "They're all gonna laugh at you" theory better still.

There's one not that far down this very forum board, called "Book's line in Objects in Space?" which is a very good discussion. I can't remember what the other thread was called, but I think it's also on this same board somewhere or other.

I would need to watch to make double sure about this (sometimes my head gets a bit screwy) but I think that River an Simon _do_ use the same airlock as Jubal in Bushwhacked, it's just we see them from a different angle - bear in mind that the crews quarters _are_ right next to the kitchen/dining room.

If you play the scene backwards and listen very closely you can vaguely make out the voice of John Lennon saying "I buried Paul".
