I think the transfer of the film itself is near perfect and absolutely BEAUTIFUL. But, does anyone know if there are plans by Universal to put out a better DVD of the BDM (in terms of extras)? A 2-disc set would be nice.

The Zone 4 DVD (New Zealand and Australia) has two discs The second disc has 4 features (total 74 minutes):
The Green Clan, about the various members of the Green family (inc Director of Photography) who worked on the BDM;
Take a Walk on Serenity, about the new Serenity built for the BDM and how it differs from the BDS Serenity;
Q and A with Joss, from the Sydney Premiere;
Extended Scenes, above and beyond the deleted scenes from the first disc.

Also, if you have a kiwi or aussie friend you can often pick them up cheaper. I just bought the 2 disc set for my brother in law's birthday present for NZ $20 (nz$1=us$0.65) Obviously, you need an all zone dvd or a program that decrypts.

Yes, I've heard of that. Why wasn't it released in the US?

So they can see it to us again down the line, without having to spend more money on new features.

Oh course, and the Browncoats will buy it. Just like the LOTR and the Matrix trilogy. Make them buy the regular one, and then come out with the 'special' special edition a year or so later. I mean, I'll buy it though. Anyway, is there anyway to buy the Aussie version online? Oh, ahem, and if I ship myself in a box to Australia, can I stay at your house?

I don't mind double-dips per se, as long as they are upfront about subsequent editions coming, and they include a worthwile ammount of new material. I wasn't bothered about Lord of the Rings, it said right on the backs of the first versions that and extended one was coming, so at least they warned people, and the extended versions came with a whole lot of stuff.

Yeah, but now they've brought out a new edition of the LoTR trilogy with an all new documentary. They didn't mention that any time earlier...

I want new commentaries with the cast. I want the shiny collectors tin that the Australians can get. I want Done the Impossible. I want the ComicCon 2005 panel. I want Joss' home movies of his trip to Edinborough. And I don't care how many versions I have to buy.
After extensive renovations, my husband hooked up the surround sound. It's like a whole new movie.

True, true. But something with the level of success that LOTR has had, you can bet that wasn't the last release we'll see.
It may be irritating, but it's a part of the business.
