We need Firefly books

Yep. He's an author. His latest novel just hit the shelves this past November. Strangely enough, he just got a statement about his Voyager book sales in the mail today. Not great, I'm sorry to say, but Voyager books are on their way out.

Far as I know there aren't any trailers out for The Exorcist: The Beginning. The entire script was re-written from top to bottom since the original director got fired and the female lead was re-cast. They still have a release date set for April, but I can't imagine that will hold.

As far as novels not being a good fit for Firefly, I tend to disagree. There would be many types of stories that you wouldn't be able to do, but with the depth of the characters, I think novelizations could be done very well.

I do have a lot of the same reservations about a Firefly movie as you do, Haplo. You have to cram too much into too short a time. I'm not a big fan of episodic fiction. I prefer serialization. More time for build up and development.

But anyway, the novels aren't going to happen. I asked him about it today. He said that he'd asked his agent about whether Firefly was going to have novels back when the show was on the air. There were never any plans to have any. Is anyone surprised?

BTW, even if your stuff isn't that great, Broancoat1, keep practicing! Writing is an art and if you don't keep up with your practice, you'll lose the skill. The more you practice, the better you'll get. Steven (my husband) has some good info for beginning writers on his website. You might want to take a look at it.

What about a Firefly comicbook series? It would make a good series in almost any form, manga, westernstyle, anime series, movie, tv show, book series.... The list is endless

I don't know anything about comic publishing so I can't really comment on it. I don't think I personally would be interested, but I'm sure there would be a ton of people who would be.

I wish that could be the case, but it's not going to happen. Like I said, the life of a media tie-in books series is very short in publisher years once the show is cancelled. I can't imagine that a publisher would even consider starting a series of a show that's already off the air.

Now, if a movie were to come out, I can assure you that there will be a novelization. 99.9% chance there. That will not have a impact on whether original novels will be written, however. Novelizations of movie scripts are funded entirely out of the marketing budget. They are used to promote the movie and are usually not expected to make money.

I'd like to see some more adventures in the 'verse, but unfortunently, the series didn't run long enough for that to happen. Maybe with the movie, there'll be some novelizations or something.

Sorry it's taken so long for me to reply, I couldn't get logged in... I personally would love to do a FireFly comic! Maybe they'll consider one to be a movie tie-in book. You never know, but I can't wait to find out. Maybe I could email someone about a comic? I'll draw some stuff up and see if I can get it posted. See ya'll later.

I agree. Firefly feels a lot like Cowboy Beebop--a great series and comic book, and a lousy movie. Ditto Stargate (cept the comic book part).

Hey Lady Jayne, Tell your hubby that I enjoyed the NanoTech War.

I have been thinking about writing about this for some time. I have read a ton of novels based on tv series, and have really enjoyed them. When I read a ST:NG novel I can perfectly visualize the characters and their setting, having seen them "in action".

I read the unfilmed FF transcript "Dead or Alive" and found it was like watching an episode of FF.

And, as I understand it, Joss may have some time on his hands, so I think JOSS should write novels about FF. That way we can continue to experience the adventures of the crew of the Serenity and explore their 'verse and discover more of their secrets.

What we need to do is find a publisher who is a FF fan, or find a publisher and convert them. Maybe an online publisher? Anyone with any connections there?
