Renouncing My Ways: The Angelic Version

I've been traumatized. Really. I may be scarred for life.
Whatever I've said about Joss being evil before now, I take it back. Nothing compares to the absolute horror I've just seen.
In case you're wondering, I'm referring to the scenes of Angel and Wesley dancing in "She". I mean, god, it was just...too horrible for words. I've had nightmares.
On the less frightening side, "Expecting" was...fascinating. And poor Cordy. She's really been through the ringer this season. And I'm actually starting to tolerate Wesley. I found the scene in "I've Got You Under My Skin" where the demon talks about his father very interesting. I might actually have to start having sympathy for him.

Oh, that reminds me--here's a spoiler-free heads-up for an upcoming disc: when you get to the first episode of S2 ("Judgment"), make sure you don't kick it back to the menu when it fades to black ("Executive Producers--Joss Whedon & David Greenwalt") at the end of the ep. Watch it all the way thru the entire end credits. Not to be missed, under any circumstances!

Well, it finally happened. But I fought it. Honest.
I, along with the many others I'm sure, have become a Wesley fan. It was a gradual process, but he's slowly won me over. I've actually cheered for him at moments. He's not such a bad guy after all.
And major kudos to Eliza Dushku. I was extremely impressed by her performance in "Five By Five" and "Sanctuary". She was able to portray Faith's deterioration in a very convincing manner.
You know, I've noticed something about Angelus. He's kind of like this old friend who you don't see that often, but when you do meet up again, you have a barrel of fun. In a demented way.
Well, Buffy's finally done it. I was waiting for it to happen, but she's finally pissed me off. Royally, even. How dare she judge Angel for trying to help Faith. And more than that, how dare she be pissed at even the idea that Angel is with another woman. It's not like she's been exactly chaste (far from it, as a matter of fact). Angel's right, this is his town, and he has every right to do as he sees fit. I hate to say this, but I'm glad they're broken up. Angel deserves better.

Okay, rant over. Had to get that off my chest.

I noticed a thread about Gunn saying that Angel lost its edge after he appeared on the show. I'd have to respectfully disagree, though I've admittedly only seen the first season. I don't know if his character was really meant to be hardcore. What I saw was a young man trying his best to survive, and to protect the people he cared about. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't see the stereotypical "baddest man on the block".
I enjoyed the finale, and I think there's a lot to look forward to in the coming seasons. One of the things that Angel has over Buffy is the sense of family. The Scoobies may be a family, but they're certainly a dysfunctional one. But the Fang Gang really care for each other, and they look out for each other. It really reminds me of our beloved crew. Of course, this all could be first-season glamour working its spell over me, but time will tell.

I remember well the thread you're talking about, and also disagreed with it. Basically, I felt like Chris was complaining that Gunn wasn't 'ghetto' enough (correct me if I've got you wrong on that, Chris). Just because he wasn't that pre-conceived, stereotypical image of what a black street kid was 'supposed' to be like doesn't mean he wasn't a realistic character; no two people are alike, remember, so I never had a problem buying him as genuine. I certainly don't believe the show lost any 'edge' because of him, and even tho the writers (admittedly) struggled often with what to do with him, I thought he made a very nice addition to the cast...

I didn't mean 'ghetto', just that his lack of any real edge was hard to swallow. Too much marshmellow underneath the cartoon toughness. For ME.

Must get the scariness out of my head...
The only thing scarier than watching David Boreanaz sing "Mandy" is watching him dance. The Mutant Enemy folks are truly disturbed people.
Season 2 is off to a good start, I think. I like the relationship they've developed between Gunn and Cordelia. I'm also liking the new digs - the Hyperion is really cool.
But I think my favorite part so far was at the very end of the first episode. I like the fact that they had Angel visit Faith. He may be the only person that really believes in her, but as long as she has someone, she'll have a chance.
Unlike Buffy, I think I'm getting good vibes for this season. Of course, knowing Joss and Co., I'm probably wrong.
