A few months ago I read about this show called Firefly was being released on DVD on an internet forum ... I read what the people were saying ... great show coming to DVD and a few other comments along those lines ... but didn't check deeper than that ... the title and info stuck in my brain and I went on my merry way.

When Xmas rolled around I found myself buying the series on DVD more or less on a whim ... and when I got around to watching the episodes I found the series interesting to say the least.

The first episode I saw was The Train Job. I had seen the previews from watching something else on Fox, probably Futurama or The Simpsons, and thought it looked interesting. I almost didn’t watch it though, because it was on Fox, and anything I like on Fox (Futurama, Family Guy, Dark Angel, The Lone Gunmen) ends up cancelled. So actually hoping it wasn’t any good I caught the first episode, thinking the whole time that I missed the pilot the previous week. I liked it, it was good, and worth catching a few more episodes of.

The scene in Bushwhacked were Wash was describing Zoe had me laughing so hard I couldn’t help but keep watching, and by then I had a few friends watching it to. I had it bad, (must have been the space bugs) I moved over Thanksgiving, and didn’t have cable when War Stories aired, and with terrible reception, I watched it anyways. BTW, it was almost as good without seeing half the episode.

Caught bits and pieces of the Train Job premiere, figured from all the subsequent online reviews and discussion (which were unanimous on only one thing, the henchman-kicking scene being a riot) that it was nothing special, and more or less forgot about 'that other ME show' until Space started airing the reruns last fall.

Starting at the beginning made a difference, to say the least. I remember thinking after Out of Gas, "Gee, too bad there's no way they'll reach that level again in the remaining eps." Heh. By War Stories I'd reached whatever the stage beyond addiction is. When the DVDs came out, I threw this together -- slidersweb.net/blinker/ads/fs/ffdvd.jpg -- linked it to the relevant Amazon page, and kept it on the front page of my site for a month. And now... well, here I am.

The first time was this past weekend - and yes, I am forever hooked! I have been a fan(atic) of Buffy and Angel from the very beginning of those series. Joss is pure genius when it comes to creative, interesting story lines with a good dose of humor thrown in. I'd had every intention of watching Firefly when I first saw the trailer but somehow missed out on the first few episodes. Didn't want to jump in mid-season, so waited it out and then missed it! I read somewhere that the series on DVD was selling like crazy. I had to see for myself and it was well worth the investment. I've not finished watching yet, but am more than half-way through. How could any network have cancelled such a wonderful show? This series should have been given the chance to build a larger fan base; talk of a feature film is right on the money! Go Joss!! Count me in as the newest and most excited Firefly fan!

A friend was very into it, but being at university I could barely keep up with Angel, let alone start a new show on top of that. When I heard that it was going to be starting on the Space Channel (and I happened to have nothing to do that night) I sat down to watch it. Here in Canada they showed Serenity first, and it just wasn't the right time yet for myself and Firefly. All I could see was Caleb and Jasmine in space, probably up to no good. I turned it off after they escaped from the Alliance cruiser with the 'cry-baby'. Weeks and weeks later, probably my next night with nothing to do, I was watching Stargate and then Firefly came on after. I figured that I had nothing to loose, it was late and I wasn't tired, so I stayed to watch. Ariel *sigh* (to this day its still my favourite episode). When it was over I was kicking myself for missing all the episodes before this one and so incredibly excited about how great the show was. I watched everything from there on, and when I got the DVD's for my birthday, I watched the first two cd's in one sitting. It was bliss. Devoted fan since Ariel, obsessed fan since the DVD's.

I remember seeing the commercials on Fox and thinking "Eh. Looks like it might be kind of cool". Didn't know what to make about "a man named Jayne" part, but it made me kind of smile. I do remember getting a bit annoyed w/ the flashing banners at the top of my Yahoo page everytime I checked my email. LOL

I tuned in for "Train Job" about 5 minutes into the show, and watched it all the way through. I remember feeling lost, as I had no idea who these people were, why they were together, or why they were doing what they were doing. The references to past events were lost on me, and the significance of the Alliance and Mal & Zoe's dislike of them seemed odd.

All in all, I liked it. I felt like I was missing something, but at that point I did not know that "Train Job" was not the pilot.

Looking back now, I can safely say that Fox screwed the show from the word go, and I hope they burn in a special hell for it.

Well, I've been a Buffy fan since the beginning, so when I heard that Joss was doing a new show, needless to say, I was interested. Then I learned that Nathan Fillion was in it, and as I was also a fan of "Two Guys and a Girl," I was even more excited. I then saw "The Train Job," and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. Still, it's Joss, so I kept watching. Then, "Out of Gas" came along, blew my brains all over the wall, and that was that. If only they showed "Serentity" first, my grey matter would have messed up the room earlier.

I saw it the first time it aired in the US.

I missed the first two or three minutes of the train job and figured I missed the whole part about why Simon and River were on Serenity. It drove me nuts for weeks. I went on to tape The Train Job and later John Doe and I remember the first thing I said about it later that first Friday evening, (I blame it on temporary insanity) “Well, John Doe looks amazing! You have to watch it!… euh, Firefly has potential.”

Weeks later when I missed Shindig I cried and when Ariel aired I was literally jumping up and down with excitement.

In the months before "The Train Job" premiered I saw tons of TV and Radio promos for the show. My dad and me decide to tape the show. So we rush home at 7:00 PM (of course a FF promo is on the radio) rush in and get ready to tape it. At 8:00 I press the Record button.

When I heard Jayne say "Nice move dumb ass!" I know this guy was going to be a cool character.

Then Jayne gave his chain of command speech I knew I was going to watch this as much as I can.

Then I see Crow brought in front of the turbine and I'm thinking well there going to let this guy go and he’s going to come back and cause them trouble well... at that point I was on my back busting a gut!

For the next week I kept watching my tape of the Train Job. And when I discovered my Second FF tape (The ep was when Mal and Wash are with Niska) taped badly we went out and purchased a BRAND NEW VCR/DVD player to make sure it tape perfectly next time!

I found firefly through the Battlestar Galactica forums.

2 days downloading off Bittorrent and I found myself watching serenity at 11:00pm on 7th Jan.

I really enjoyed the pilot but knew it was special (as mentioned by others) the moment "Krow" was munched by Serenity... :)

I ended up watching the first four episodes that night even though I was shattered the next day. (but it was totally worth it.)

Two copies of Firefly are on order and I'm forcing all my mates to watch at least one episode while over here. I've now converted 7 who had never even heard of it...

This is a special show and reminds me of how the movie Shawshank Redemption crept around via word-of-mouth.
