Hi Shiney Kitten!

Melbourne is near the bottom, right hand of Australia's mainland (directly above our island state of Tasmania) - I tend to call it 'New Melbourne' here because there is reference to such a place in 'Objects in Space'...

Melbourne held the Olympic Games in 1956!

Melbourne has the largest population of Greek immigrants in one place outside Greece.

Melbourne has the largest population of Holocust survivors outside Israel.

Melbourne was the capital city of Australia from Federation on 01/01/1901 until the official move to the deliberately planned and built capital of Canberra.

The state Victoria (of which Melbourne is the capital city) is on an equal par with California in terms of being in the worst bushfire zone in the world.

We have no major fault lines, no cyclones, no twisters, little flooding, summer temps up to 42c & winter is mild-cold but no snow!

I love it!

Love this thread too - lets stand up for the Aussies! mwaah - Magdalena x x x

I'm a Canadian living in (New)Melbourne. People at home are E-mailing me about the Crocodile Hunter. It's big international news, folks.

PS. Lovin' the Melbourne. You really can't go wrong here, can ya? Glad to know I'm not the only one around town forcing friends into Firefly.

I really loved watching that guy. I've never seen anyone so genuinly enthused about his work and he did a hell of a lot for the cause of conservation and protecting animals. I'm really hoping that we hear in a few days that the announcement of his death was bull like when they said that Will Farrel was dead a while back when he was filming his most recent waste of $8.00 at the theatre.

I've been a little busy so sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread.

Great to hear there are other Aussies about.

I'm from near Melbourne, so it's even better that there are a few Melbournites around!

Thanks for the welcome

I'm a kiwi, but I do like Melbourne. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be in your fair city anytime soon.
