There was a long gap of silence, before anyone spoke up.

“Tell us then” Robert insisted

“Just wanted to make sure you were all paying attention” Mr Needham continued, smiling to himself whilst his gaze to his right hand side seemed as if he was acknowledging someone that wasn’t there. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth proved to be formless and waste and there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep; and God’s…”

“You have any idea what you’re doing?” the shadowed officer interrupted

“I believe he’s quoting scripture” Robert answered the man, whilst the prisoner continued on reciting words from the book of Genesis.

“And God proceeded to say: “Let light come to be.” Then there came to be light.”

“You’re playing a very dangerous game Mr Needham. Tell us what we need to know and you can get it all back, your life as it was. But you continue with this, and I swear you will wish you were never born.” The shadowy figure threatened him, whilst Robert kept his mouth shut.

“After that God saw that the light was good, and God brought about a division between the light and the darkness.”

“We might not be able to hurt you physically, but your friends… your family... everybody you’ve ever set your eyes upon… that’s another story

Needy stopped talking, and gazed intently into the eyes of his enemy.

“Either tell us what we need to know, or they will face the consequences for your actions”

“Mr Wu” Needy turned to the man seated opposite him. “Tell your friend that his threats are meaningless, he hasn’t the power to do what he says”

Robert was speechless. How does he know my name? He couldn’t recognize me, we never met before!

“Unfortunately for you, you are wrong.” The man offered “Not only do I have such power, but I can show you how easily I can use it”
Reaching into his inside pocket, the man pulls out a thin receiver, a cross between a mobile cortex and a microphone, only much more advanced and looking simply like a slim twelve-inch pen.
Holding it close to his mouth he utters “Show him. Bring in the girl”

Needy smiles whilst he waits for the man to display his “power”

When there is no response, the man repeats his instruction into the device.

Still, no response.

Robert sits quietly taking in the situation. Something feels wrong somehow. He can’t explain it. All he knows is that if there is one person in control of the situation, he has a feeling it’s the prisoner, and not them.

“You may think you have the power” Needy responds “but you are wrong.”

The shadowy figure looks up at the prisoner, light finally catching his face to reveal a bald scarred man, with a look of absolute frustration in his eyes

“You’ve got nothing but technology. And, as always, that always fails” Needy smirks again before winking at the man. Just then, the receiver the officer is holding surges with electricity. As blue sparks burst out, the man attempts to drop it, but it is too late – all the energy had already shot out and quickly jolts his hand, up his arm, electrocuting him there on the spot.

Robert swings around but is helpless to do anything. Before he can even think of telling their prisoner to stop, it is no use. The officer collapses in a burnt crisp heap on the floor.

“I like my officers well done. How about you?” Needy says deadpan.

Robert can only look on at him in fear. This wasn’t the man he knew about. What had he become?

The events that took place in that room were burned into His mind until the day he died. He tried to close his eyes but found them drugged open. He was forced to watch what it did to her for over four hours. She was dead for the last two but the beast didnt care. The things it did were too horrible to be described. Years later when Wisp devloped alzheimers at the age of 64 he relived the evnet daily. Doctors believed it to be hallucinations as the things he described were too horrible to imagine.

It haunted his dreams every night. Every time he closed his eyes he could see it violate her. He didnt lie with a woman for seven years after that day. And even then he vomited thouroughly after it. He changed his entire lifestyle as his own mind changed itself. He remembered how he could talk to women but was repulsed by the very thought of it.

He was a different person. After the reaver had reduced her to a bloody carcass, barely recognisable as a woman, The animal tried to tear Wisp from the celing but he was too high. It ran to the door and tried to get out. His claw hand had been torn from his wrist during his abomination and the stump bled profusley.

When the men from crimson squad decided that the thing would not degrade the woman anymore they triggered an explosive device round his neck killing it instantley. They then walked into the room unphased by the carnage that would make the hardiest human stomach wrench with fear and disgust.

"Still not talking???" The calm one said. Wisp mind had fallen into a catatonic state and didnt respond at all. Vomit hung from his mouth along with blood from his lungs as he had screamed so hard. His eyes were dry as there were no more tears within him.

"Very well. We have no further need of you" They pressed the button again and he fell from the roof to the floor. The men left him. He cradeled her body in his arms and sobbed dry bitter angry tears until his body was out of sorrow and pity. All that was left within him was burning revenge. He had seen Lizzie stow the package and now retrieved it. The pain corsing through his injuries was drowned by the pain in his soul. He put on the jacket and took his pistol blowing out the lock on the door. He had one thought on his mind.

Vengance.

OOC: Wisp, wow! That was an unexpected twist. Well done.

The corridor seemed to close in on him as he strode silently through the halls, following the map provided by the facilities security system. His conversation with Lieutenant Bayer still played over in his head, but all he could do was constantly wonder if he had made the right decision. The Cortex link he held in his hand still showed the picture of the man with the tattoo, but now it also showed a series of coordinates. No name, but at least now Soul had a starting place to search for the man who had killed Ciaran. He wondered if the tattooed man would even remember him. After all, Ciaran had been killed three years before Soul went into cryo, and since being released from his quarter-of-a-century icebox prison he had spent four more years trying to get his life back together. Now he finally had a lead.

Soul marched around a corner just in time to see a bullet emerge from a door lock and just barely miss his arm. He stopped in place and raised his gun as the door opened to reveal—

“Wisp,” Soul said.

The other man stared back at him, and in that instance Soul knew that he was no longer looking at the same man who he had traveled in the SereniTREE with. This Wisp’s eyes were harder, determined. Cold. To a degree, they almost mirrored Soul’s.

Wisp stepped aside, allowing Soul to look into the room, and what the ex-Expendable saw managed to churn his normally cast-iron stomach. He looked back at Wisp, and this time saw the rivulets of skin showing through the mask of blood and grime. Soul knew the remnants of tears when he saw them.

“We are kindred souls,” Soul began. Wisp opened up his mouth to argue that fact, but Soul held up his hand, the one with the Cortex link still in it. He stared for a moment at the picture of the tattoo before continuing. “There is a time for vengeance, and a time to right wrongs; but that time isn’t now. We have friends that need our help first.”

“This vengeance can’t wait,” Wisp spat.

Soul stared back at him, letting his eyes grow steely. “I’ve waited thirty-two years for revenge. I think you can wait.”

Wisp stared back at him for a moment. Then he nodded. They turned and headed down the hallway, and as they went, Soul couldn’t help but feel bad for anyone who crossed their path.

Truth sat on the roof of the Carson Home. It was the safest place to be when Mr. Carson was home, not that that was saying much. The Carson Home was falling apart. The roof leaked in multiple places and in all honesty he was constantly surprised that he didn’t fall through it.

Mr Carson wouldn’t pay to get it fixed and definitely wouldn’t fix it himself. If it leaked it leaked into the attic where he had the children sleep.

It was his favorite place to think though, especially in the middle of the night.

He wasn’t able to sleep, how could he sleep, Ghost was missing.

His baby sister, blood or not that’s what she was.

His baby sister was missing.

When Mr. Carson had seen them walking back from town, Truth had known they were in trouble. He sent Shadow to hide Ghost, while he took the punishment from Mr. Carson. When he had regained consciousness a few hours later, he found Shadow unconscious in the woods beside the hovercraft yard, dried blood and mud caked on her face and clothing.

Gently he checked her over, attempting to wipe some of the grime off her face as he did so, smiling to himself, despite his worry, as she whimpered slightly and opened her eyes.

When Shadow woke up she had told him she had hidden Ghost in one of the old hovercrafts, the one he had been fixing up in fact. She had been going to find a hiding spot of her own when Mrs. Carson had found her. She told him how she had been dragged into the woods when customers appeared headed towards the hovercraft shop. She had watched as a man dressed in a uniform walked up to Mr. and Mrs. Carson and rented the hovercraft Ghost had been hiding in.

She hadn’t gotten a good look at the man and couldn’t remember much about him. Once the man had left Mr. Carson had come into the woods.

They were just lucky neither were seriously injured.

Truth glanced up at the stars. He hoped Ghost was okay where ever she was. They were going to find her. He didn’t know how. Mr. Carson had locked them in the attic and had people guarding the house.

And the two of them were in no shape for a journey.

Tomorrow he would sneak into the hovercraft office.

He would find all the information he could on the man who rented the hovercraft, if there was any documentation at all.

Then he and Shadow would find them, would find their sister.

OOC: Yaay I finally got a section saying where Truth and Shadow are.

The corridors looked all the same as Wisp walked with Soul. His body burned, His spirit ached. The images of what had been done had merged and blurred and nothing was clear anymore. He blamed everyone but he blamed nobody. It was all done by the dead reaver but it was all caused by him.

If he hadnt have come, if he had lied to the men, if he had died in the river. She didnt have to die. If he had died it would have been fair and just. But she was innocent. She didnt have to die.

But now the crimson squad had to. If he ever saw a man in the suit with the crimson band he would tear him asunder.

Safe rounds a corner and nearly runs into the back of a guard with a crimson band on his sleeve. His bare feet almost lose purchase on the tile floor, as he stops abruptly.

Ducking quickly back around the corner, he leans against the wall, takes a deep breath, silently curses the creator of the open backed hospital gown, and peeks back around the corner. The guard continues on, apparently he hadn’t heard Safe.

Stepping softly back around the corner, Safe levels the gun at the back of the guards head, and pauses, reconsidering the idea. Switching his grip on the gun, he slips up behind the guard and knocks the guard unconscious with the handle of his gun.

Moving quickly, Safe drags the unconscious guard into an empty room. Inside the room, Safe switches clothes with the guard and ties him to the empty hospital bed. The uniform is a bit of a tight fit through the shoulders and a bit loose around the waist, but close enough to pass muster. Pulling the collar up to hide the tazer burns on his neck, Safe slips out into the corridor, pausing at the diagnostic center outside the room to get a location for the rooms where the others are being kept.

Rube steps through the door of the Epsilon, intently studying the electrical schematics in his hands.

His concentration is momentarily broken when he steps in something soft and squishy. Looking up, he steps back in shock. The rear cargo area of the Epsilon resembles something out of a nightmare. The walls and floor are covered in green gore. Rube stands in shock for a moment before stumbling back towards the hatch.

The alliance copter carrying the four fugitives landed at Tamhead Quarry a couple of hours after its departure from Helo. Far from any prying eyes hoping to learn of the location of the resistance’s base, the four figures stepped out.

The old mine had few visitors now, ever since the cave in twenty years prior. Many workers had died from the chemicals found in the mine back then, and even though the danger had been dealt with, still people refused to return.

Of course, the resistance had used this to their advantage, often meeting up in places such as this, the nearby rockery proving an excellent way to keep things hidden.

“This is it?” Milton asked the fighters that had rescued him

“Sorry?” Flechette responded, seemingly offended

“This is your base of operations?”

“No, of course not” Jack replied with a slight grin. “We prefer our bases much homier.”

Before Milton gets a chance to ask why they’d stopped there, Jack continues: “But we can hardly land the copter so glaringly in the open”

Milton looks around, seeing nothing else but stones and gravel. “This is the open!”

“Trust me, I know what I’m doing. Besides we got you out didn’t we? Come on” Jack instructs, leading the former companion around to a small mule, just big enough to seat four, partially hidden in an opening in the rockery.

“Home is not far away now” Jack tries to add comfort to the lost soul.

Milton feigns a smile, and as he boards with the others, he contemplates his next course of action.

Breaking him out of prison or not, these were not trustworthy people. Neither were the alliance. And what better way to get two enemies off your back than setting them against each other. As soon as he arrived at the location, he would set things in motion. For Needy, he told himself.

Following the directions he found on the computer, Safe arrives at the room where he and the others were originally kept and where Seryn and Ghost were until just recently. Taking the uniform had paid off. The few guards he had encountered on route hadn’t even given him a second glance.

Finding the room empty, Safe enters the control station across the hall. An orderly packing up paperwork and medical charts, looks up surprised.

Folding his hands behind his back and adopting an official tone and posture, Safe asks. “Where are the… patients?”

The orderly looks at him confused. “The woman is dead and the girl is in the room waiting questioning.”

Safes face drops ‘Dead? No! I’m late again…’ He thinks. Looking up he sees the orderly eyeing him suspiciously.

Drawing his gun and crossing the distance between them in two strides, Safe grabs the orderly by the throat, throws him up against the wall and jams the barrel of the gun in his cheek. “You’re lying. You lied about the girl being in the room, you must be lying, so I’m gonna ask one more time, where are the others.” Safe says in a quiet, dangerous voice.

“I saw the doctor close the body bag, and sign the certificate.” The orderly stammers. “You can check the charts.” He nods towards one of the boxes.

Safe’s shoulders sag in defeat. He lets go of the orderly and slumps into a chair, staring at the floor, not really seeing anything.

The orderly looks at Safe in shock, “You’re not of the guard, you’re one of…them.” He hisses rubbing his throat.

An alarm breaks the silence, startling the orderly, but Safe doesn’t seem to hear it. The sound of running boots fills the hallway.

“HA HA! HA HA! You hear that?!?” The orderly shouts with glee “They’re coming for you. You’re a dead man!!”

Safe’s gun rises, almost of its own accord, and barks. The orderly is thrown back against the wall and collapses to the floor. “Oh… Shut up.” Safe says, never lifting his gaze from the floor.

In his hands are the medical reports for his friends. A Dr. Sikes had some explaining to do...
