I’ve been telling people on this board for a long time that the kind of stupid comments that the anti-war and the anti-Bush camp uses make themselves look stupid. From the pointless and childless ad hominem, like arguing that Bush is “evil” or a “terrorist,” to flat-out fantasies like arguing that a foiled terrorist attempt wasn’t a terrorist attempt all, but the evil work of Dr. Bush and his “neocon” minions. It’s not that there aren’t some good reasons to disagree with Bush or the war, but the anti-war and anti-Bush types often don’t use them, preferring instead for elaborate fallacies and fantasies. I can’t really disagree with Rumsfeld on that particular phrase.

Neither faction has a monopoly on stupid comments, Finn. The trouble with your argument, is that it implies that logical and sensible opposition to the party-line is really not important. What's important is the absurd knee-jerk flailing around that a lot of people engage in.

But why? There are many on the right (remember Pat Robertson) with absurd and odious oppinions, but to say that everyone on the right is Pat Robertson, or might as well be for the sake of argument, is to dismiss half the nation as fools or madmen. And when the ruling elite dismiss fully half of the nation as fools and madmen, and the other half agrees as you do, Finn, the way is paved for Totalitarianism.

And remember, folks, it isn't Fascism if your government really is infallible.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Morally and intellectually confused seems to describe the Right's agenda of fighting fang and nail for an embryo's RIGHT to get born, but after that, not seeming to care a whit if that child has a right to eat, or a right to medical care, or a right to decent education, etc.
i.e. You have a right to live, but no right to live.

That's just one example.

It's just as foolish to say Bush's minions blew up the Trade center as it is to say Bush did all he could to make America safe pre-911.

Political s**t can blow whichever way the fan gets hit.

Whatever that means Chrisisall

The voice of reason.

Good politics is a balancing act, not a 'side' Chrisisall

That’s not the trouble with my argument, at all. I agree with the use of logical and sensible opposition to the party-line. I would love to hear more logical and sensible opposition to the party-line coming from the Bush-haters. And it was quite clear to anyone who bothered to actually read my post that I was not talking about logical and sensible opposition. What I was talking about, which I gave examples of, were wild, unfounded and ridiculous accusations.

Finn, I will argue you point by point if you wish.

I don’t even understand what relevance your last post has to mine.

And speaking of the certianty of his errors:

"We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat."

(Didn't he just name every direction away from Baghdad? East? Yep. West? Yep. South? Check. North? Yep.

Doesn't he sound like a kid guessing on a geography question?
Donny, can you tell me where the weapons are in relation to Baghdad?
quavering uncertain hesitant voice eeeasst?
No, not quite Donny, try again.
hopefully Uuhhmmm west?
No Donny you still haven't gotten it.
norrthh ??
Last choice Donny !
SOUTH !

BZZZZZTTTT !

I'm sorry, Donny, the answer was "none of the above"!)

I think HK was saying that it sounded like you were saying either that there is no logical and sensible opposition, or that what little there is is vastly overshadowed by Bush-hating nonsense as to be rendered invisible.

We feel this is not the case. Like, harp all you want on Monica (Not you, I mean), the real failing was in Clinton's crappy foreign policy and shady business dealings. The Monica stuff is just extra nonsense that doesn't eliminate the real issues.

We all know Bush isn't really an evil android from the future, so don't even pay attention to that stuff.

Then, we totally kill Bill and Ted Chrisisall
