I don’t know what Rumsfeld was talking about specifically, but morally and intellectually confused sounds about right to describe many of the anti-war arguments. I’ve been telling people on this board for a long time that the kind of stupid comments that the anti-war and the anti-Bush camp uses make themselves look stupid. From the pointless and childless ad hominem, like arguing that Bush is “evil” or a “terrorist,” to flat-out fantasies like arguing that a foiled terrorist attempt wasn’t a terrorist attempt all, but the evil work of Dr. Bush and his “neocon” minions. It’s not that there aren’t some good reasons to disagree with Bush or the war, but the anti-war and anti-Bush types often don’t use them, preferring instead for elaborate fallacies and fantasies. I can’t really disagree with Rumsfeld on that particular phrase.

Nihil est incertius vulgo, nihil obscurius voluntate hominum, nihil fallacius ratione tota comitiorum.

Nothing is more unpredictable than the mob, nothing more obscure than public opinion, nothing more deceptive than the whole political system.

Didn't someone named "Finn" just recently post that the Islamists were NOT trying to take over the world? Hmmm... must be a different Finn.

Finn,

Your right wing talking points are getting old. Not just because they are repetetive. If you were actually saying something of fact that you had to continually address because people weren't getting it, that would be one thing,

but you and Auraptor and HERO keep returning to the same tired and unsupported arguments that appeal to only those people who don't really care to examine the issue - who merely want to continue to despise us 'terrorist loving heathens.'

That is the same audience that Rumsfeld is appealing to, by using the same kind of nonsense rhetoric, by using one broad brush to characterize everybody who talks bad about the war and Bush, a population that is getting more diverse by the day, instead of doing any factual defending of his and the administration's decisions.

It's pretty lame, and only serves to hold on to the blindest of the Republican base.

Hey, maybe this will initiate universal health care.

I am waiting for them to start with forced vaccinations first.

"Oh, he refuses to vaccinate and protect public health. He must be quarantined and forced to vaccinate. While he's contained, we might as well treat him for 'paranoid oppositional delusions'."

While there is some support for partisan dissent, there is almost no support in this country at all for medical dissent--esp. dissent from vaccination dogma.

There will be an epidemic (possibly bioterror attack) for which a vaccine will be quickly whipped up, and those who refuse to vaccinate will be interned, I mean, quarantined. Maybe they will provide other medical treatments while they are at it. And the rest of the country will nod approvingly.

You just wait and see.

I recall a Bush quote - something along the lines of "Education makes the public too easily confused..."

Moral and intellectual confusion? Yeah, that's what the administrator says to badmouth those of us who think for ourselves. If we'd all just turn off our brains and do as Rummy says, life would be a whole lot easier for him!

Oops - now I've done it. I've joined the RWED flame wars!

I noticed the same thing in another thread. I was replying to USBrowncoat and Kaneman responded to my response continuing the conversation. I just figured they forgot which account they were logged into when they replied. If that is indeed the case, *shrug*, it wouldn't be the first time that sock puppetry reared its head at FFFn. Won't be the last either.

Kaneman/USB: Feh! Like PN, ignore.

Meanwhile, still waiting for a response from Finn.

Finn, I will argue you point by point if you wish.
