SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Tuesday accused critics of the Bush administration’s Iraq and counterterrorism policies of trying to appease “a new type of fascism.”
In unusually explicit terms, Rumsfeld portrayed the administration’s critics as suffering from “moral or intellectual confusion” about what threatens the nation’s security and accused them of lacking the courage to fight back.
Rumsfeld spoke to the American Legion as part of a coordinated White House strategy, in advance of the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, to take the offensive against administration critics at a time of doubt about the future of Iraq and growing calls to withdraw U.S. troops.
Rumsfeld recalled a string of recent terrorist attacks, from 9/11 to bombings in Bali, London and Madrid, and said it should be obvious to anyone that terrorists must be confronted, not appeased.
This is exactly the kind of thing I've come to expect from this administration. I guess if you're critical of the Iraq War, you're unpatriotic and in league with the Islamo-fascists as well. And even better than that, you're suffering from some sort of "moral and intellectual confusion."
Hmmm, I wonder if the intellectual confusion he's talking about would in any way encompass the attacking of a country that had nothing to do with Osama bin Laden or the terrorist attacks of 9/11? Oh well, probably not.
The Republicans are just doing what they do best, they're attacking the patriotism of those who dare to disagree with them. Their blatant politicization of the terrorist attacks is a pathetically desperate attempt to use fear to drive people to the polls in November.

Kaneman
Those of us in new york disagree with those of you in new york. And let me add a little detail I know well. Kaneman, the man who is everything and everywhere, if you're really in new york, you're in a serious political minority, by which I do not mean republicans, but people who think the admin. is protecting us. They couldn't give a rats ass about us, and it's blatantly obvious.

You missed the part of the story where Rummy said that the media had been infiltrated by terrorists, and anything that you read which was critical of the administration had been written by terorrists. It was an orwellian moment.

This seems to be the latest strategy coming out of talking point central. It's being parroted by the neo-con apologists everywhere. It's the usual attempt to create a false dichotomy. They'd like to pretend that anyone critical of their stupidity is suggesting appeasement, or is simply a coward. Fuck them. These asshats are going to run our country into the ground if we don't get them out of office soon. And we'll have plenty of damage control on our hands even after we do.

I'm still waiting for them to start defining dissent and lack of agreement with their asinine policies as a "mental illness" that shortly will be dealt with by forced medication/incarceration.
"Oh, he doesn't agree with us, he must be insane!"

Just when I think it has to get better....
The fact that Rummy was even allowed to finish his speech without the crowd either laughing him off or leaving in disgust scares the bejeezus out of me.
Goose-stepping will hurt my back, I'll be in the klink for sure.
