ShadowLeopard,
Wow. Talk about pessimism. :(
I see what you're saying. You have some excellent points. And, you could very well be right. Perhaps there is absolutely nothing definite whatsoever in the works right now.
But, so what?
Yes, a definite promise of a a series return or a new movie would be really fantastic. Beyond fantastic. The shiniest news the Browncoat community (as a whole) could imagine.
But, isn't a slight hint of something -- anything, even a potential plan rather than a concrete one -- isn't that at least better than hearing absolutely nothing whatsoever?
A fire doesn't always need a giant log to keep it burning strong... they won't create such a huge blaze, but even a few small sticks will produce a flame.
To quote Mal (and whoever already quoted him in this thread) "It's enough."
**Edited for: I just looked up "necrophilia"... wow! Um... in this metaphoric sense (NOT the real sense)... why is that a bad thing? Someday there really won't be any new content; no show or movie continues to produce new stuff forever. Are we really going to stop loving the 'verse when that day comes? That would be truly sad.![]()

My point was actually that we didn't hear anything at all - the post directly mentions every single other project Whedon has in the works, so why not a little mention of something explicitly Firefly?
The necrophilia thing is a quote from Tim Minear, btw.
I do think the series could return...easiest way in my mind to deal with the issue of actors, etc. being occupied would be for Fox, or whoever wants to revive the show, to run the first season in the correct order...give everyone time to get there shit together and start making new episodes while at the same time building excitement and proving the second season will be a hit.

Actually it's the fact that he makes specific mention of the other projects, Buffy, X-Men, Wonder Woman and Goners, that causes Firefly/Serenity to stand out by its absence. Joss already discussed his other major projects... so the cryptic part at the end alludes to what he didn't talk about.
His last paragraph contains obvious Western metaphors. Then there's the "spread the love" and "fight the power" comments. Now what show comes to mind there? Then the "If They Move. Kill 'Em.".
The "take the red pill" part is Matrixy, but alludes to those who choose not to conform to an overarching power, and instead break away and make their own lives. Hmmmm... now what show comes to mind there?
Joss threw in some wacky stuff too, but that was to flesh it all out, mix things up a little, and well, just be Joss.
The main reason why Joss couldn't be more specific is because things are still in the planning stages. Giving too many details too soon can cause problems. But he wanted to let us know something. Being cryptic and wacky is just Joss' way of doing that.
Plus he likes to then come back and lurk and see all the fans go NUTS over this stuff... heh... heh... BIG fun.

What I find interesting is that no one has brought up the recent cancellation of SG-1. That leaves a space open in Sci-Fi's schedule for a returned series. And since the last ten episodes don't start airing until March 2007, it gives people time to get organized. And it's far enough out that Joss would likely still be under NDA's keeping him from saying anything. Which would explain why he's hinting so obliquely... because he's contractually restrained from saying anything more specific.
Not saying any of this is actually true, but it *is* an interesting chain of events...

but he never likes to raise too much speculation...
but you're right: it could just as easily be a Spike movie or something else....

I hate to bring everyone down, but I am starting think we're reaching the point where it stops being lifesupport and turns to necrophilia. We are approaching a year out from the movie; almost all the actors, writers, directors, etc., have moved on to other projects.
don't forget that the Star Trek movie was about 10 years after Star Trek was cancelled...
it doesn't matter if people move on to other projects,
they can still be brought together again if the project is worth while for them...

What you say makes sense.
Then again, hope is never a bad thing.
And you can have MY hope when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

I'm with you Hoondatha, somethings going on. Maybe it'll be a monthy, made for tv movie airing on sci-fi.
Would that get around fox's legal rights?

I'm in agreement, here. When Joss is being dead serious, he just cuts to the chase and tells us like it is... When he's got hope looming on the horizon, he's cryptic and giddy like a little child.
Here's to hoping the giddiness is for the Browncoat cause. As far as I'm concerned, Firefly ain't dead yet... not by a long shot.
I'm ready to fly again, Cap'n. Just say the word...

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for explaining "bump" and the other helpful information. Have a shiny weekend! Elaine

I don't care if it's unrealistic, quixotic, or obsessive (this sounds familiar
)to pick this statement apart for meanings that may not be in it but I choose to hope. I choose to believe unreasonably. That's what got us back on Serenity in the first place. So call me a Browncoat.
On that subject, I did see many possible refences to the 'vers in that last bit, just like so many others. Ye's I know I'm stretching it a bit far but I was even excited by the word fire being included in the same bit as all the rest.
(and yes I was watching my DVD and it's various features today)
