Do you remember the first time you saw firefly?

I saw the promos and thought, " huh...that looks a bit different", but didn't think too much about it. I casaully watched the 1st episode, but thanks to Fox for not airing the pilot first, it didnt 'catch' me. I was getting into watching John Doe, to be honest, and since Firefly came on before 'Doe', I would catch bits and pieces w/ out watching too terribly close. Not till 'Our Mrs Reynolds' did I finally clue and think... " Whoah now...this is more than kinda cool .. ITS DAMN GOOD! "

When I heard rumors that both Doe AND Firefly were being canned, I thought someone was joking...being sarcastic and all. No way could these damn good new shows suddenly be TAKEN off the air....it made no sense. Then it hit me....we're dealing w/ TV execs who can't think past their..( expletive deleted ) ok..I won't go there. But as for the fine folks who took our Firefly off the air...

When I heard Joss Whedon was doing a sci-fi western, I have to admit it didn't sound terribly exciting to me. When I heard Nathan Fillion was the lead, I thought that sucked, because he was my least favorite character on 2 Guys & a Girl. When I heard Gina Torres was going to be on the show, I didn't think I'd like it because I didn't like her on Alias. But, since it was Joss Whedon, I still watched the Fox series premiere (The Train Job). And still, for the first 40 minutes or so, I wasn't sure I was going to like it or even watch again...

But luckily, the ending to The Train Job hooked me, every episode after that was better than the previous one, and around the time War Stories was shown (maybe before), I'd decided that Firefly was the best television series of all time.

You and I are hard nuts to crack, but still helpless against the sledgehammer that is Firefly.

I've said this before: My first episode was the premier of The Train Job. It managed to keep my attention, and seeing Crow go through the engine clinched it.

My fiance and I were on vacation in VA. I had just finished watching "Glitter" because I was too lazy to change the channel.

Suddenly, he says, "Isn't that new Joss Whedon show on tonight?" Being pretty hardcore Buffy fans, we gave it a shot.

The rest, as they say is history.........

Saw the promos, was intrigued with the "How's business?" "None of yours." line. And the girl in the box.

Watched The Train Job, and what got me interested, curiously enough, was the theme song. The only other times music sucked me into something were the first time I heard the Raider's March in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and the Team Banzai March from the opening of Buckaroo Banzai (what was my username here again? )

And then came the scene when Mal kicked the guy into the engine. I was floored. I thought stuff like that only happened in the role playing games I played back in high school/college!

Afterwards I thought, okay, not bad, I'll probably try to catch this next time. By the time Out of Gas premiered, I was totally hooked.

I was a big Buffy/Angel fan and when I heard Joss was making a sci-fi show I was VERY excited. I managed to avoid seeing any promos so I could see it totally "spoiler free," I didn't even know about the western aspect. Then I had a wonderful accident...I wanted to be able to watch the first show on videotape, but I blew it and didn't get it recorded. The reason this is wonderful is because I immediately turned to Kazaalite and proceeded to download anything that said Firefly and I managed to download the unaired "Serenity" and watched it first. I was hooked from the start, and Firefly continues to be a HUGE part of my life.

'Lo.

Longtime lurker, first time post-er.

Ah, the first time I saw Firefly...I read about it in the NYTimes (magazine, as I recall) and thought I'd give it a try. Alas! I tuned in late, and missed the teaser and the intro, but I saw the rest of The Train Job, and I was hooked. I saw and taped every episode, and found myself re-watching them several times every weekend, until the end. So sad.

However, now I have the pleasure of watching and re-watching the the DVDs! And I have--just about every week. It has become my "comfort video."

I think in a way I was fortunate in that I saw Firefly for the first time on DVD. So Serenity was the first episode I saw which I believe was the way it was intended.

however it makes the loss of the series even harder

I watched and loved Buffy and Angel so when I heard Joss was going to do 3 jobs at once I was at first worried that he was being spread too thin. But loving the worlds he'd already created I was excited to see what he would do outside the Buffy/Angel verse.

I was in the midst of preplanning for being on the road for a month taping a rock band for a documentary but took the time to watch the first episode. Loved it. Watched the next couple of episodes then hit the road. Figured I'd catch the ones I missed in reruns when I got back to a regular schedule. But by the time that happened, the news had hit that it was leaving the air.

Yay for the dvds...and for a couple of down days where I could do nothing but watch episode after episode, then again with the commentaries, then again just for fun!!!

And here I am trying to find ways to make sure the project continues. Tooooooo good to let it go! And the more I discover about the crew and the cast and the fans, the more I want to see this thing get HUGE and shame FOX as they should be shamed! The best revenge is huge success, and money paid to their competition for having the faith! And I'll do everything I can to convert as many folks as possible to help make that happen!

Not much. I didn't see any whole episodes, besides Ariel and Objects in Space. But I do remember River shooting the three men in War Stories.
