My daughter and her fiance are very big SG-1 fans and that's what they said when I spoke to them on the phone. They both thought.. wait.. what if they are making way for something else? 'Course that's conjecture, but.....

I would imagine that there are a lot of SG-1 fans feeling a lot of pain. We should be respectful of them.

It does need a few weeks for Gaters to adjust to their loss - or years, lol. Imagine how we feel about FF being canned, and those feelings are still strong years down the line.
In all honesty, all us Sci-Fi fans should be pulling together, whether we're Gaters, Browncoats, Trekkies whatever.
If we all pooled our resources, imagine what a SF fanbase that would be!
Problem is, whether you loved SG-1 or not, being pulled sucks, as it's another Sci-Fi series off the air (apart from the obvious re-runs).
And with the exception of BSG, what other mainstream SF is still on air ? Okay, there's still SG-Atlantis, but other than that it's essentially re-runs of older series.
So whether you're a fan of SG or not (and I'm not incidentally), it's a sad day for the whole SF community.

I'm coming at this from the side. Not so much cancelling it, but finally unable to afford it and letting it go. IMHO, the production company and cast of SG-1 were ready to see it end a few years ago, namely at the end of season eight ("Threads"). I feel it's SciFi that kept it going this long. Sort of CPR on a hundred year old. Although, there is a fairly solid rumor that the producers wanted to break the X-Files record of longest running American scifi series (nine years). Supposedly, they will do a movie, and use that movie to launch a third Stargate series!
The way I see it, SciFi has two cashcows keeping it afloat. The Stargate and BSG franchises. They are very reluctant to let either of these go, and in fact have pushed to expand both franchises (first Atlantis, then Caprica, and soon a third Stargate show). Shows typically increase in cost with each additional year they are on the air, mostly due to actor compensation. As has been stated, ten years is a long time, and the production costs must be enormous!
I do agree that Firefly would be a nearly guaranteed win for them, and I think they know it. As Everyworldspinnin said, they are probably trying to find the capital.

Kind of odd though seeing what happens in the past when we already know what the future holds.

Wow, i admit i'm a bit stunned, just cause i've kinda taken SG1 for granted for so long. Of course, i havent seen season 9 or 10 (obviously), but still...
I think Caprica looks like enterprise, and if I may, I think enterprise was awful. Horrible. Godawfulhorrible. But that's another story, nvm. I hope Caprica is good tho, even tho i cant watch (dont have sci-fi).
I dunno, without SG1, I doubt atlantis will have as much momentum, i always viewed it like a voyager rather than a TNG, if you get the reference. (voyager was kind of an add on, TNG was a full on continuation of the original)
As for firefly, i dunno. As for Joss, if Sci-fi approaches him, he might work something out with Minear, but I doubt that'll happen at all, unfortunately.
Wow... so that's it, now BSG sorta stands alone (and i've never seen it. should i check out the first disc or something?).
Still, i'm gonna miss SG1.

I think you should. I ordered it the same time as Firefly and I haven't watched it yet ( well, obviously, cuz I had to watch and rewatch Firefly over and over!) but I've caught enough on tv to know that I didn't make a mistake ordering it.
BSG is good, it's no Firefly, but it's good.

Yes, I am. As a huge SG-1 fan I now find myself having to fight for two of my beloved shows that have been cancelled. Though, I have to say, after 10 fantastic seasons Stargate has been far luckier than Firefly (which should have been around for 20 seasons IMHO!).
Still, won't make me fight any less - for either of them!
Thanks also to all you non-Stargate fans who have been so respectful to our (the SG-1 fans) feelings at this time. Have to say though, I think the idea of petitioning to bring Firefly back to fill the gap is a great one! I've already written to Sci-Fi several times in the past to that end, but now this might be the perfect time to try again - whilst writing to other networks about SG-1 too.

I agree - there was an interview with the makers of SG-1 who wanted the episode to also be a tip of the hat to Firefly, which judging from their comments they held in high regard. I believe it's to be taken as a humorous remark, nothing more, and I don't seen anything mean or offensive in it.
(sorry for these posts in such short succession - been away for about 3 months and have some major making up to do!) Plus this is a subject close to my heart right now (sniff)
