WW wasn't conceived in the usual way. She was sculpted out of clay and given life by the (Greek) gods. Genes don't play into it.

"The Amazon area?" If you're thinking of the Amazon region in South America, you're way off. That name comes from the Portuguese, who thought they had discovered the mythological (is-)land figuring in the legends of the ancient Greeks. The Greek people have been composed of various ethnicities through the ages but none of them were black. In fact, the hellenistic Greeks were apparently more caucasian than modern ones. For someone who grew up with the character, you don't seem to know much about her origin, since you have the most common misconception about her. Which doesn't invalidate your opinion but you can drop the "I'll-explain-this-to-you-dear-child" routine.

Well, apologies, obviously my conception of where the Amazon got its name was incorrect. Also the origin myth was likely way, way before my time, considering she was first seen in 1941, and it was not rehashed over and over the way Batman and Superman have been. I never saw it.
Oddly enough, the image of her on wikipedia, which claims to be the cover art for #3, shows her with brownish hair, kind of fading to black. That's the only time I've seen her portrayed with lighter hair. Interesting.

Might be a lighting effect, but it still seems strange.

Damn she's beautiful.
PR- I saw a history channel show where they actually proved that the Amazons existed. But they were from eastern Europe, with blonde hair & blue eyes.A modern ancestor was found in Mongolia & a dna test ( from a corpse believed to be one of the warrior women )confirmed the lineage. If they were really the Amazons or just an obscure tribe of female warriors Goddess only knows.Cool though.

I still love WW & can't wait to see what Joss does for her.

Jennifer Lopes

I aim to drool
Traveler

Phoenixrose, what movie did you get that excellent shot of Gina Torres in red leather from. I think if she hadn't got the role of Zoe she would have made an excellent Inara.
Not that I'm complaining. No way.

I'm not saying you're wrong Traveler (because, well... I don't do things like that); but, Jennifer Lopes?

That's all I'm saying.

You have to see the possibilities.

Wonder Woman fights evil and Jennifer looks scrappy to me. I know she does a lot of romantic movies, but actors can have a wide range if they get the chance. And I think she can handle it.

No offence taken Yinyang. I'm sure your not the only who will disagree with me. I have a friend who doesn't like Firefly. I know, it seems impossible to me too. But everyone has their own taste and I can't force Firefly down his throat.
I would like to try, but I won't.

Hmm... I feel the need to explain my dislike of Lopes for the roll to you. Feel special, Traveler.

The fact that I don't think she can act well is irrelevant; I just don't think she looks the part. Plus, doesn't she have an... interesting accent?

***Tangent Ahead***

And, on the subject of your friend who doesn't like Firefly - I can see where people like that are coming from. But, for the most part, I think that they don't take the time to look past the twang and pistols - that, or they just don't appreciate getting to know characters. That's strange and slightly crazy, if you ask me.

Ok, I hate Jennifer Lopez with a mad fiery passion. She's flat and uninteresting and when she's not flat and uninteresting she's bitchy. Wonder Woman she ain't.
I think the shot in red leather came from Xena or Hercules; I'm not sure, it just popped up on google search and my jaw dropped.
I agree she could have played an excellent Inara.

Interesting factoid about the Amazons, too. Very shiny.
