From Sci-Fi Wire:
SCI FI Channel confirmed that it will not renew its record-breaking original series Stargate SG-1 for another season, but will pick up its spinoff series Stargate Atlantis for a fourth year.

Can't say I'm surprised at the decision - but it's a shame nonetheless. I haven't watched it for a while now, but for SG fans it'll be a sad day.
I sorta went off the show when O'Neil left, but anyone who's stuck with it must be gutted.
Notice on the official SG-1 boards, that they're already gearing up for a campaign - so be interesting to see how they do.
But it's gonna leave the Sci-Fi channel weakened, as I can't see that they've got another series to match it in terms of fanbase.

Yeah, if they can only find a show to replace it that already has a built-in fanbase....

Maybe it's time to start writing to SciFi again...

My daughter and her fiance are very big SG-1 fans and that's what they said when I spoke to them on the phone. They both thought.. wait.. what if they are making way for something else? 'Course that's conjecture, but.....
Wait a couple of weeks..being mindful of other folks' loss... then write. I'm going to.
I would imagine that there are a lot of SG-1 fans feeling a lot of pain. We should be respectful of them.

So as not to inccur Pheonix's wrath I'll post here. It will be a sad day when Sci-Fi airs the last episode, I've enjoyed the show a great deal. Of course, I think I missed a couple of years when it moved to Sci-Fi and I didn't have cable. In other news, did anyone notice that Micheal Shanks was listed as starring in Stargate SG-1 The Movie? I don't recall him showing up at all.
Edit: At least they're waiting until AFTER Morena guest stars.

Would you be so kind to start a thread then, including addresses to write to etc?
And why wait? SciFi channel will already be in the planning stage, so we shouldn't be too late (and SG-1-fans do not receive our mails / letters anyhow, so they cannot be offended.)

I really thought that was a funny and very real reference, don't see how it was negative or mean.
As a long time SG-1 fan, I can honestly say in the back of my mind I saw this coming. The show just hasn't felt like SG-1 like it did in the past. Everything feels too rushed and short on character growth and depth they established early on.
I'm sad to see it not return, but on the other hand, I am glad it won't go on and continue to get worse and worse. Give it a little grace and dignity. Go out in style, you know?
All is not lost, as Stargate Atlantis is really picking up steam and I am really enjoying that show as well. And like Joss, the SG-1 guys aren't finished yet. Expect SG-1 to pop up somewhere again someplace else.
Which is probably for the better, as SciFi has been acting like Fox lately. Pulling a huge anchor like BSG from the Friday line up, promoting nothing but their sub-par movies, and bringing in ECW Wrestling. It had better ratings than SG-1. SciFi doesn't seem to care much about SG-1 anymore. Looks like Ben and Claudia brought a little Farscape curse with them,

If ending SG-1 could tell a little more Firefly story, I'm all for it. While SG-1 brought me back to television, Firefly stole my heart and wouldn't give me the closure of 10 seasons.
Stargate SG-1 had a fantastic run, record breaking even, and I'm sad to see it go, but hopeful for the future. Firefly came back with love and support from the fans, I'm sure we'll get to step through the gate sometime again.
Kree.
