Trolls are people that insult others to get a response. There's a better definition, but... I'm lazy.

And, no, they're not just restricted to Firefly haters. They're everywhere.

EDIT: Guess I'm not so lazy after all.

Troll: a type of halfling, specifically a dragon/human hybrid. Often deformed, and typically with strong innate magical ability. With training, trolls can become powerful mages (due to the merging of dragon and human magic). Also called ogre, goblin, or orc.

Other halflings include Nephilim (human/faerie hybrid) and Elves (dragon/faerie hybrid).
