Just rewatched the excellent "Ariel". Only now for the first time I'm wondering just where the ambulance vehicle disappeared to before "War Stories". It's still in Serenity's cargo bay when they leave the world but never seen or mentioned again. Seems like something that (perhaps with another paint job) they would have kept given how useful such a vehicle would've been for them. They just move on to selling the medicine, which suggests they didn't just sell it either...
Continuity issue?

Don't know, but in real life I think it was rescued and restored.

Indeed it was. However within the show... it's unexplained. Never noticed this before and I've watched "Ariel" dozens of times.

That I can not answer. If Joss had more time he could...Sounds like a good plot for the sequel.."SERENITY..The loss of Ariel"

Bear in mind this is just my own opinion based on absolutely nothing even remotely official.

They cut it into tiny pieces and chucked it out the cargo hatch at the first safe spot they found.

Consider. It's a very hard to hide piece of evidence not only of a major felonious type crime but also of the whole Simon and River are here thing that they would really rather nobody find out about. Secondly (and apologies to Kaylee for this) while it looks pretty it is still something patched together out of parts from a junkyard and consequently really can't be considered a reliable piece of transportation technology. So it's not something they can afford to hold on to nor can they really afford to sell it and since they probably wouldn't get much for it anyway it gets rejunked asap.

I also takes up a lot of space. They could have stashed it away in some out of the way rock until they needed it again.
