Great post VerseExplorer! Glad to see such enthusiasm and creative guerilla marketing. The more we all stay motivated, the stronger and far reaching the audience for more of the 'Verse will be.

I am sooo hopeful that Firefly will show up in the top 100. It could soar to the top too if everyone would send 1 episode to a friend. My 3 favorite episodes are coming up: Our Mrs. Reynolds on Wednesday, Jaynestown on Thursday, and Out of Gas on Friday. Even if you haven't done the 1st episodes, send one of the next 3 to a friend.

Good point about the next three episodes, they do work quite well as introduction shows. Although it is best to start a new person with Serenity, these next three shows are all solid winners... they have the action, the humor, and enough peril to keep things very interesting...

It's Our Mrs. Bridget day!

Oh, wait...

No, it's Our Mrs. Yolanda day!

Uh, hang on, that's not right... hmmmm..

Oh yeah, it's Our Mrs. Reynolds day!

See the episode that introduced the prettiest little sidewinder you ever did meet.

P.S.

Little bit of trivia: This is another episode FOX showed out of order. During the original broadcast run, Safe and Shindig were pulled out of line and shown after Out of Gas. From what I recall the theory at the time was that Our Mrs. Reynolds and the following two were bigger crowd pleasers and stood a better chance of boosting the ratings.

Of course showing the pilot and not pre-empting shows right off the bat goes a long way to improving ratings too...

With regard to Firefly eps on iTunes, the DVD series can be purchased from CD Wow for £13.99 if you order the Region 2 & 4 box set thats probably about the same cost as buying the lot from iTunes. That box set is no. 5 on the CDWow best seller list.

I think some folks out there might be missin' the point of this.

This isn't about buying Firefly the "cheapest" way you can. This is about buying Firefly a different way than you could before. This is about the opportunity to spread this fine series a little further, to a place where it's not been seen before.

One of the young ladies I'm gifting these to will be watching them on her computer..that's where she watches everything.
That's where the other folks who share a room with her watch everything. No big fancy tv. So I'm hoping that not only will she fall in love with Mal ( I mean Firefly) but that the girls who room with her will too. Cuz how will she resist telling them about it once she's seen it?!

It's about gifting someone with maybe ONE ep when you can't get them to sit down and watch the first disc.. that one ep might hook them easier than a whole disc which they say pleasantly "yeah I'll watch it" but then they don't. It's about comin' at this in a different way.

So thank you to all the "coats out there who are participating and being supportive of this!
I'm sure there were some detractors of the first campaigns chronicled on the DTI DVD... they forged ahead anyway and kept holdin' the line.
If they hadn't I'd have not discovered this wonderful series and this wonderful place.

Thanks so much FM for restating the core reason for Firefly Fortnight: The great guerilla marketing opportunity these iTunes episodes provide.

If only downloadable, and emailable, Firefly episodes were available when the show was on the air (like eps are being offered now for current shows)... oh the guerilla marketing we fans could have done back then! We could have been spreading Firefly eps as gifts to as many people as we possibly could to get the word out. It would have made such a difference, especially during that long 3 week hiatus, which was so damaging to the show's chances for survival.

We could have saved Firefly while it was still on the air. *sigh*

Ah well, that's air through the engine now. The thing is, the cast are still with us, Joss wants to do more, and studios greenlight projects once they see there's an audience and money to be made.

The Firefly and Serenity DVD sales are staying strong after all this time, and without any official advertising. Those sales numbers are the result of fans' promotional efforts, word of mouth, and the sheer brilliance of the 'Verse.

Again, if there's money to be made... a studio will answer the call.

It's the day for the Firefly episode that centers around our favorite box-dropping-man-ape-gone-wrong...

"Jayne... the man they call JAYNE!"

Today is the day for Jaynestown.

A classic episode and actually also could work well as an introduction episode for a new person. There's gotta be someone, or someones, in your Address Book who stand an excellent chance of lovin' Firefly after seeing Jaynestown. Give it a try... at $1.99 per episode it's so worth doin'!

I was poking around iTunes and as far as I can see they rank TV shows by popularity daily.

Firefly wasn't up there. Actually I was discouraged by how difficult it was to find. I thought it would be more obvious. I had to search.

I do this not to party poop, but to point out how uber-important it is that we get over there and spend some coin to save our beloved. Okay, my beloved, but I'm not alone!

Be well, all!!!

I was disappointed, too, not to find Firefly up on the top of the list of iTune shows. Sorry it took so long to search for the information. On the home page, on the left under "Inside the Music Store", click on "TV Shows". On the right it lists the "Today's Top TV Shows". Scroll down to the bar that says "Top 100 TV shows", and it will give you the list.

If everyone would download or gift one episode (Jaynestown on Thursday and/or Out of Gas on Friday), we could really make a statement that there is a need for more Serenity!

Mal: Saffron, you're pleasing, you're all kinds of pleasing, and uh...it's been awhile, a long damn while since anybody but me took hold of my plow.

Yes, it would be great to see Firefly make it to the top 100 list. But the campaign depends on fans spreading the word and I'm not sure how many message boards got the info. I've posted the info around, and members of the FFF.net Event Team have been pitching in, but it really takes LOTS of fans promoting the campaign for it to get to the point where it affects the iTunes top 100 list.

Still, the endeavor has its effects in ways other than that list. There was a noticeable bump in Firefly DVD sales on Amazon when Firefly Fortnight started! Yep, that's right. The sales had been holding steady, then suddenly they increased during the beginning part of this campaign! Since there are no official promotions going on, it's reasonable to assume that bump in sales had something to do with our campaign activities. Very encouraging to see!

Also, the core focus of this endeavor goes beyond showing up on the top 100 list... we're using these episodes to reach out to new fans... these eps can be sent via email and connect with people who up untill now either did not know about Firefly, or weren't convinced enough to take the leap and buy a DVD set. But once introduced to the 'Verse, each new fan who is created stands a good chance of continuing to spread the word to others. It's a math thing, we can increase our fan base expodentially this way.

Really hoping this sounded like a positive, exciting post about turning people on to something they will fall in love with. Not all creepy and culty... heh...
