He really would. I was watching the deleted scenes, and what Zoe said about him having lost his trust, I don't believe is true. Think about what he said to Saffron/Yolande (WHY?!)... He has a crew who trust each other. And in the main, I think it's because of Mal, and the trust they have in him.

though I think that he is tortured because of the war in Serenity Valley and that trust only extends to those on his ship who-- dare I say have proven themselves to him

Yeah, it took him a while with Simon and River, but it's obvious from the little "conversation" him and Jayne had at the end of Ariel, that he considered them to be his crew.

First scene that popped into my head is the start of "Out of Gas" when their all laughing at Book's story. They were all there, well Wash finally showed up, and it was family.

My Dad turned me on to it right after the BDM came out on dvd while on vacation in Oregon to see them.
I saw it at a walmart--looked good and the rest was history- I had to find more when I ran across FF, BEEN LOVING IT EVER SINCE

I know what you mean. Me and a really good mate were watching it at the same time, texting each other about what we thought of the episodes, because she'd not seen it before. I quote here: "I thought this would be crap, but it's brilliant!"
The thing which I think makes it so appealing is that there is something about pretty much all of the characters you can relate too. :-)
Me and Sam (girl I work with) have alloted characters to us and the others at work, based around which we are reminded of.

Yeah, that is very true. It's the one which shows most clearly their closeness, and how tight knit the group is.
