Can we have custom avatars? Whom would I email about it?

...still a little whimsical in the brain pan...

Email Haken at haken@fireflyfans.net

Have you made any of your own?

Oh yeah. I'm kinda obsessed with avatars. Over at TrekBBS, I use this one:

Which I made from one of the screen grabs I got off this site months ago. But I can make more; actually, that's some of what I'm doing with my afternoon. ;)

Think anybody would have any requests?

What is a "custom Avatar?" An Avatar of what?

In this sense, avatars are just pictures that go next to your name/alias.

You can choose from a few on your Edit Profile page. Or, like me and some others, you can email Haken a personalized 48x48-pixel image and he'll add it to your profile when he has time.

I am pretty sure it's a 60 by 60 pixel image... I could be wrong though... it happens every day.

Ok, now I get it. Originally, an Avatar (Hindu) is a god which takes a physical form and comes down to earth. For example; Bhavani was a diminished Avatar of Kali, worshipped by the Thuggee (which is where our word thug comes from.)

Thanks for the reply.

But your own crazy-haired avatar is 48x48! Nice choice, BTW.

In a computer sense, it's a 3-D representation for a person in Virtual Reality. I don't know when it became a 2-D image on message boards.

are .gif avatars allowed? as in, ones that move?

For example (just one I made and had uploaded somewhere else):

*Daf

Kaylee: Wash, tell me I'm pretty.
Wash: Were I unmarried I'd take you in a manly fashion.
Kaylee: 'Cause I'm pretty?
Wash: 'Cause you're pretty.
