firefly for childeren - too young

I would say the 13 year old will be fine, but eight is probably a little too young. A lot of the jokes will fly over their heads, but some situations you might be a little uncomfortable explaining to them.

my brother was waching firefly when he was 7. he loved it, and understood stuff. i really thinks it depends on the kid.

I watched it when it originally aired when I was 11. I enjoyed it, and understood it, although War Stories stood out. (Not necessarily in a bad way, just memorable to a 11 year old. lol)

So I'd say, that it does depend on the kid, but there really isn't anything on Firefly that kids aren't seeing all the time in television.

That having been said, I have a 15 year old friend whose mother won't let her see it. But her mom is one of those parents who tries to completely control and shelter their kids from everything, and they often can't watch shows, or drink caffeine, or chew gum, or use the internet, or several other random things. lol So you should probably check with the parent first.

Some people have listed several episodes in particular, War Stories has torture, but definitely not as bad as say Alias (which that friend is allowed to watch...imagine that...) or many other shows people are seeing. Heart of Gold deals with prostitution/sex but it's not like seeing a Strip Club in Las Vegas or other shows, or even as bad as many sex scenes on tv these days. And one bonus is that alot of the cursing is in Chinese, so no worries there. The rape scene in Objects in Space is intense, but not one of the most disturbing ever filmed (A Clockwork Orange anyone?), plus nothing ends up happening. And I doubt an 8 year old would even fully grasp what going on.

ETA: Although, my favorite movie growing up was Short Circuit instead of Bambi or some other disney movie, and I watched Monty Python when I was 5 or 6, so maybe I'm not the best example. But I think I turned out okay.

Depends on their maturaty I would say...I'm 14 but I'm maturer and understand more than quite alot of 16 years olds and am able to understand alot of stuff that when watching FireFly with my older brother (17) he couldnt quite understand it (yes he's stupid) but I would talk to the parents about if they think their kids are mature enough to watch it.
