Here's a guerilla marketing idea, pick three (or more) people from your email address book, people who haven't seen Firefly but who seem like folks who could become fans, and send them the gift of Serenity!

iTunes makes it so easy to send episodes as gifts via email. Purchase the pilot "Serenity" and set her loose on the web to seek out yet-to-be-born Browncoats. Firefly eps are only $1.99 each and can be viewed on the iPod or computer. This is a fabulous way to guerilla market the BEST.SHOW.EVER.

Here is the home page for the video section of iTunes. Scroll to the bottom and there's a section that shows you how to give episodes as gifts via email!

Only a $1.99 each... spread the Firefly love!

Hopefully many ppl will join in and make firefly the most downloaded series i thought i would mention this as i could lose my job if they found out i used the database to spam so many ppl but i dont care as i love firefly so much and i want a second series to be made more than anything "God please let there be a second series made"

Well kudos to you for putting yourself out there for the Firefly cause! I certainly hope that you don't catch any flak for utilizing the company's email list... but your heart is certainly in the right place.

You may have spammed a bit, but at least it was for something as awesome as Firefly... this is a subject people will WANT to know about... as opposed to the regular spam topics... ugh!

For the record, you can watch the eps straight from iTunes even if you don't have a video iPod. You can even watch them full-screen, if you like. It's not DVD quality by any means, but still.

I hate to burst anyone's bubble but buying the episodes on iTunes means that a)the resolution is signficantly worse than DVD b)you can only watch it on your $300 video iPod or computer if you want to watch it on your nice large TV or a portable video device not made by apple you're screwed and c)it's actually more expensive then buying the cheapest DVD set I've found online. Plus I just don't like DRM ( http://craphound.com/msftdrm.txt) and iTunes is one of the worst offenders in that regard.

It's true that the quality is not as good as the DVD, and the episodes are meant to viewed on either the iPod or your computer. However, those factors become less important when one considers that this format still works so well for guerilla marketing Firefly.

These episodes can be purchased one at a time, and people can get an introduction to Firefly without starting off by investing in a full DVD set. Many new fans can be created by viewing just a few episodes, in fact, just seeing Serenity might do the trick.

The best thing the iTunes episodes have going for them is as guerilla marketing tools. $1.99 is a very reasonable price to be able to send Serenity to someone as a gift, via email, and help them discover the 'Verse.

2nd day folks! I took 11th Hour's advice and went thru my email addresses and found two more people I can gift Firefly to.

This is a great opportunity to spread Firefly around for not very much money. I know from experience that sometimes you can get someone to look at just a bit ( one ep maybe, gifted with love) and they fall in love. I hooked my brother with a Firefly fanvid! I wish I had had the ITunes opportunity then.. it'd happened much quicker.

This isn't about replacing the DVD's to me, this is about talking myself into an IPod ( ok, I digress a bit there). It's about marketing Firefly to others so that we can build the 'Coat population up. More fans there are buying Serenity, the more likely we get a sequel. I'm still all about the sequel.

Instead of just holdin' til Mal gets back... I can fire out of the trench til Mal gets back!
I like action better!

"You hold. Hold 'til I get back." Mal

Awesome post FollowMal... you are a true Browncoat, through and through.

Today is Train Job day! This is the episode Joss and Tim had to rush write in order to try and create a second "pilot" show... because FOX, in all its brillant strategy, would not show the actual pilot, Serenity, first.

Train Job took some criticism in the beginning because it didn't quite work as a replacement "first" show to introduce the 'Verse to the audience. Well, it was a tall order... asking a 1 hour show to do what the 2 hour pilot did, plus not duplicate material from Serenity, and still take place after the events of the pilot. *whew* The thing is, the 'Verse needed the introduction that Serenity provided for the audience to be introduced to such a rich, and unusual, show. But this is an oft told story that ends up provoking thoughts of "what might have been", and then inevitably leads to strong epithets hurled in the direction of a certain TV network... and deservedly so...

All that aside, Train Job is a solid, highly enjoyable episode, full of classic Firefly moments... with the topper coming at the end. The swift resolution of Mal's confrontation with Crow is the white hot moment that turned many a curious viewer into a Browncoat... for life.
