There's a fantastic article all about Mal's pistol in Volume one of the "Firefly - The Official Companion" book which is released in the US on September 30th. :)

EDIT: ...according to Amazon, although I've heard a couple of people say that they already have a copy. I'm confused!

I agree, the shape of the barrel, frame and grip resemble one of the civil-war era Colt Navy revolvers. Haven't done the research but I would guess a replica could be found to use as a base (if one wanted to have a go at making their own).

I think it might be available in the UK already. How'd you find out about the pistol thing?
