Why do people come to a forum such as this, and turn it into their personal support network? This thread is for all who want to discuss Firefly. Not hugs and kisses for you know who.

Why do people do that? Well if I had to guess I'd say it's a combination of a few things, how many I will not say for fear of becoming the inquisition.
First off if that when people come here they're already on the losing side, in the context of the show Mal and Zoe lost the war, River lost her chance at a normal life, in the movie Zoe lost Wash and we also lost Book and our newest friend, Mr. Universe.
Outside of the show we lost our series, and then three years later we lost our optimism about continuation when Serenity wasn't the hit we wanted. Every day that passes we are further and further from hope of a sequel.
In a very real sense everyone who comes here is already a loser. But we're in it together, and all we have is each other and reruns on DVD.
This is the perfect support network from the start, it's set up as a gathering place for those who have suffered in the same way, it was not always so, for once Firefly had not been cancelled, there was a time before hiatus but I think those who remember it can see how unlike that it is now better than anyone.
A second factor is simple, how do we greet people? It might have changed while I wondered off, but I wasn't wondering all that long, we welcome them to the family, we welcome them home.
That makes this a place where you can open up, where you can get support if you need it. It makes it a place where most of the people actually give a damn, a place where people care about you.
There are other reasons, but I forgot them.

I'm not sure what 'tread' we're talking about here - to tread on someone, a tire tread - but I can assure you that most people don't need or want either.
