Angel 5.10 - Soul Purpose (spoilers)

DB's directorial debut. Well.. it's a debut, that's all I have to say about that

Highlights:

- Spike's comments to the first would-be victim he saved

- the bear

- "sci-fi lasers"

I'm really interested in how Lindsey is calling himself "Doyle" to Spike. Even though the visions he is getting are faked, it's funny how this is playing out, how they are trying to trick Spike and the Senior Partners.

What I didn't like was all the exposition. Yeah, some of us all ready suspected that the tats on Lindsey's body and walls were used to hide him but for him to out-and-out explain that to Eve? It just seemed rather forced and needless, better explained with a quick, sly remark.

When my husband and I started the episode I said to him, "Be ready with the pause button. If Christian Kane isn't in the credits I'm going to scream and whine and pitch a royal hissy fit." Fortunately, I didn't have to worry about that.

I know why he used the name Doyle. He's not stupid. He knows every last detail of Angel's history since Angel came to L.A. It was not coincidence.

Yeah, the exposition about the runic tatoos was totally unecessary. I knew what they were the second I saw them back in November. No need to explain.

Another irritating thing to me was the report on Spike and what he was quoted as saying. Was the Sex Pistols reference just a talk down to the audience? There is more than one punk band in existance, you know. A tip of the hat to Dag Nasty or even a more modern band like KMFDM would have been cool, but I think they don't believe the audience would know those names.

But overall, I'm intrigued. I am still viewing with Lindsey's last words to Angel "The key to Wolfram and Hart is never to let them make you play their game. You've gotta make them play yours." He's not happy that Angel has taken over and wants the senior partners attention drawn elsewhere.

I love Lindsey. I want more.

Well, I gotta say, for exposition, it was really worthless. What the *&^%$ is going on with him?

if he is trying to get rid of Angel, why have a "vision" and send Spike to save him. From a monster he as Eve set on Angel in the first place?

The runes, well, that was for those of us who had not figured it out already. But the plan was not explained at all, and I am still completely clueless as to which side either he or Eve are on.

This is getting to be a very interesting season.
