A good friend of mine (Mark) made a nice observation today...

"Star trek was cancelled, and brought back... maybe Firefly will have the same fate.

Why?

Because the Enterprise had a Canadian skipper and a Canadian engineer (actors Shatner and Doohan are both Canucks) - Serenety has the same thing ( both Nathan Fillion and Jewel Staite hail from Canada)."

I think this is a very curious coincidence and bodes well for the ultimate fate of the show.

"Just remember... all success is illusion: what has really been accomplished is the displacement of an area of specific failure to somewhere else... or is it the other way around?"

Star Trek got saved once, then got movies, then got a new show, then got a new show, then got more moives, then got a new show, then got more movies, then got a new show.

I think I covered everything.

Now then, I’m fine with us skipping all of the in between time, and getting on to the movies, then we can replace one or two of the new shows with the series coming back, and although I’m sure Joss could make many very good ones I have no need or any spinoffs so long as I get my normal Firefly.

Does that sound like a good plan? Can we do this? Now?

Unfortunately, neither Nathan Fillion or Gina Torrez are Jewish (at least I don't think they are). That could also be a critical part of the formula. What we need is Lucille Ball to rise from the dead and pay to produce Firefly like she did for Star Trek.

The Fox network. They brought us Two Guys and a Girl, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Family Guy, Futurama, Brimstone, British Sky Broadcasting, only to snatch them all away.
They left us with 24.

I'm just picturing a "Train 48" (or whatever the number is) version of Firefly. I would be pretty much down to ritual suicide, Lamby Toes. Canada's good for a lot of things - high budget sci-fi films is not one of them. I think this one is for Hollywood to solve.
