Reaver encounter not unscientific after all

Just watching the pilot again, and had a thought that the usual criticism being that Serenity and the reavers would zip past each other in a fraction of a second (actually mentioned in the commentary) is not neccessarily unrealistic.

Unlike aircraft (or indeed U-boats!), spacecraft do not neccesarily travel in the direction they are facing, so it is concievable that Serenity and the reaver ship are actually on near parallel trajectories, that are just passing in a scissor fashion. Unlikely, but possible.

Actually, I think a bigger criticism should be that they're way too close to each other when passing. Space pretty big, and it's not likely that two courses would come close to intersecting without planning. However, the reavers might have intentionally come closer.

Oh, and I assumed that Wash slowed down when the Reavers came in sight.
