He does the job, and then he gets paid.

(I think I heard that somewhere before.)

I still stand by my original statement--he was the best bad guy in the entire Star Wars universe-next to the original, episode 4,5,6 Darth Vader.

one time Boba took a job to stop a group of pirates from wiping out an entire race for 100 credits (which was all they could afford) and it was hinted at that Fett actually returned their money.

Fett is a good guy (in his own mind). He's a "freelance law enforcement officer." Like most legal bounty hunters, Fett has a full range of licenses and permits.

(This is the justification of the Empire; that strong Laws are needed to ensure civilization. Laws are what bring Order to Chaos, and Laws determine morality. The Rebellion argued the opposite side, that moral and ethical standards are more important than any imposed legal code, and that laws should be formed [and, when appropriate, ammended or stricken] based on moral guidelines.)

True, he sided (politically if not always in practice) with the Empire during the Galactic war, but remember that the Rebel Alliance was a terrorist organization that typically employed criminals (Han Solo). His hatred for Jedi stems both from his own past (seeing his father brutally killed by a saber-wielding Jedi Master) and, I'd guess, from the Imperial propaganda that painted Jedi as treacherous manipulators who orchestrated the war to try to seize control (telling Fett just what he wanted to hear). Later (after escaping the Sarlacc), his personal grudge against Solo is equally understandable.

Note that, during the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, Fett reformed the Mandalorians to help the Republic/Alliance, and even prepared them to operate alongside Jedi. He probably didn't like it, but the law is the law.

I'd guess that most of the credits he made went back into funding his own operations (upkeep of the armour, license fees, docking fees, ship maintenance, new weapons, storage of any equipment he can't carry with him, etc --bounty hunting is not a cheap business).

Something Darth Maul wrote once seems appropriate for Fett as well: "I am not evil. I am efficient."

When Fett accepts a contract, he will carry it out. While his personal feelings might show in small ways (allowing non-combatants to safely flee the area, or terminating someone under a "dead or alive" mark), the outcome is not in doubt, and is pursued with single-minded obsession. Morality does not enter into legal or economic decisions.

Actually Jango Fett tried to kill Obi Wan. Now I understand that genetically they are the same person, but they are in fact two completely seperate people.

Right. Everyone is a good guy in his own mind (even Niska!). That's what makes people / figures interesting - that they have a different view on things.

Boba Fett once killed a bunch of bandits on a remote outer-rim planet after swearing on his pretty floral bonnet. Then he got married. But he didn't know he was getting married so all matters of confusion occurred. When it was all over he said "Only bad guys steal from good 'n honest folk yet only a bad guy can end them. Does that seem right to you?"

"What'd you all order a dead guy for?"
