Saw the premier of Eureka on Sci Fi, and the 'machine' there was basially the same thing, on a smaller scale. 3 rings in concentric formation....Don't know how/if that helps at all, but I thought I'd mention it.

It's not exact, but very close. The middle ring is solid.
I think that's just a standard 1 ring gyro. The outter 'rings' are actualy fixed, a metal frame, and the central 'wheel' is the only thing which moves.
But that's more than I offered.

Well, a search for "2 ring gyroscope" doesn't bring anything up. So a little tabletop toy probably doesn't have two, you're right. Anything that looks more advanced was built by a science class or something. And those might be the same thing, actually. It's hard for me to tell.
I actually wonder if two rings would throw it off, since I'm not finding anything that has two. Huh.

Guess it's been awhile since I saw that movie. I thought it was just two rings in the middle rotating and two on the outside stationary.
