We are so humped...

Hey, Haken! Now might be a good time to force users to migrate to Firefox or other 'Java-builts'. M$IE is just entirely too hackable and a breeding ground for every kind of malicious code imaginable. And I refuse to believe it can ever be made totally safe. Even if you turn off all the internal programming features, a hacker can just turn 'em back on.

At least with a Java-based ('sandboxed') browser you've got some kind of a chance for survival (long as you flush after every use)...

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
You can do some truly amazing things with a browser as programmable as Internet Explorer, as long as you're in a 'secure environment'... (NB: which, if it's got humans in it, is in no way secure.) The only limitation is the boundaries of your own imagination. I know because I once maxxed out a $25,000 USAF award -- and won the Secretary of Defense Productivity Award for FY 2000 -- for an internet-distributed training system I designed from scratch, based on IE. But the ability to access a remote user's hardware -- at least to root, if not BIOS -- through the browser, plug-ins and ActiveX controls they installed on their own computer is more of a clear and present danger (self-inflicted virus) these days than any advanced functionality can offset...

Get Firefox, y'all. IE -- once my tool of choice -- is rotten fruit now, with maggots at its core. And, no, that's not overstating the case. Sorry, billg...

I can't get the thread archives to come up. It doesn't even seem to try, just says the page cannot be found. This is mostly an issue in General Discussions, as the other rooms move a lot slower.

Same Problem.

I click the link in IE6 on WinXP,

It links to:

http://fireflyfans.net/threadlist.asp?b=2&a=1

and says that the page cannot be displayed.

Still doing it with General Discussions, but not Talk Story. Haven't tested the others.

Oh dear, will our dear archives work again?
Maybe if it wasn't all of them on one page it would be easier to have them come up? I know there are a lot in the archives of GD. There are some threads I'd like to be able to get to again, though. In the meantime, I'll try google.
