Loved that! Immediately got me thinking about what the plot would be! Any writers willing to take up the challenge to draft an outline?

Actually, I had quite a detailed plot in mind when I made the trailer, though of course it's hard to tell a new story using old footage, so it doesn't really come through.
What I had in mind: It's a year after the events in the movie. The Miranda incident has upset the political stability of the 'verse, and an economic depression has hit the system. Things are so bad that Mal can't even keep the ship fuelled, and the whole crew has settled down on some remote rim planet. Zoe has bought a farm and is raising her baby, Wash junior. Simon is the doctor for a small town, and lives with Kaylee. That kind of thing. The crew keep in touch but life is hard.
However, there's neferious deeds afoot. There's some sort of treasure (I think of it as "confederate gold", it's as good a MacGuffin as any) hidden at Serenity Valley. A group of no-good thieves (backed by Niska maybe?) are going after it. Part of their plan includes killing Mal, who knows something about this hidden treasure from his time fighting on Hera. The assassination attempt fails. Knowing Mal's life is in danger, the crew gathers together what cash they can, helps Mal get the rusting old ship off the ground, and they head in-system, trying to get to the treasure before the bad guys do. Space battles, bar fights, quickdraws, and run-ins with the law result.

That's a great plot. You should consider writing it out in script form.

2) What software are folks using for their video captures and editing? I don't want to spend alot of money, but I guess I'm prepared to if need be.
Glad you're rocked. I used Windows Movie Maker, which comes with XP Home (I think). I have a TV tuner card in my PC, and fed the DVD images in though that to capture the images. Plus, there's a whole pile of freeware out there to do things like capture audio from a DVD, editing audio files (I used FX audio editor - fairly powerful and free 30 day trial), etc.

Best part was:
'Zoe, change course.'

'It's Braedan. With an A.'
'Shiny moments aren't a destination any of us get to, and stay put forever. They're unknowable, brief flashes in time. That's what makes them shiny.' -GorramReevers

Loved how you pulled in Purplebellies from Starship Troopers! Very good work, Hans.

I like your choice of music from 'For a Few Dollars More'.

Lol, aside from that odd chord in the Serenity soundtrack that still gets me, (right between the guitar and whatever that deeper instrument, whatever it is, there's an upswing in the tone, and it just sounds so full-on, gorram happy that it jerks me from the firefly mindset)...
Twas AWESOME, especially the Zoe-Simon voiceover, I never realized how good an intro to the series it made. Right when you start the theme music and the voiceover, that when I got that "aww hells yeah" feeling trailers try to get, and I thought, DAMNIT WHERE'S MY SEQUEL!!!
"But, these strong women characters?"
"Why aren't you asking 100 other guys why they don't write strong women characters?" -Joss Whedon
