"Listen, Mal, I waved my contact, but there isn't much she can do until we meet with her. She's got people on the border that'll draw the Alliance's attention, but, like I said, can't do anything else unless we meet her."
"Who exactly is she?" Mal inquires, arms folded tightly.
"A friend."
"This 'friend' wouldn't be the sort that'd blow up rooms or try to kill you, would they?" Jayne says, sipping from a flask.
"Name's Calisto. Sort of a self-proclaimed 'commadore.' She has about twelve ships under her, last time I saw."
"Never heard of her." Mal's eyes are steely and doubting.
"Not surprised. Tends to run things from a distance, for various reasons. In fact, I'm more than a little surprised she'd even come meet us."
"Where she plannin' this 'meeting?"
"Nearest fuelling station. Expect Wash can get us there easy enough."

Once everyone arrived in the ship the captain turned and asked John "who wants my dead"

"Uh, we don't, sir!" Ertia piped up, "Not a bit."
Then she loooked cautiously around her, "I mean, we don't, do we?"
"NO! No of course not!" Choruses ring out around the room.
"John, or whoever ya are," Mal says slowly, "Everybody's got a bullet with their name on it. If I spent my whole life worried about who wants to kill me, I'd be wasting a whole lot of good living time. So, unless you got something productive to say....?"
There's a long pause as all eyes turn towards John. Kaylee looks a bit aghast at the Captain's rudeness. The rest of them just know he's right. They're in a dangerous line of work and there's someone gunning for every single one of them all the time.
Except perhaps for Inara, who stands against the wall, lips pursed and arms crossed, waiting to hear what needs saying.

"I talked to her actually she talked to me while she was in the academy. We've met before as well"

The Captain turned to the strange conversation "Look you appear to know quite a few people on my ship but why the hell should I not just throw you out the airlock."
"Because I can help you."
"How"
"You're out of options, your friends want you dead your bag of tricks has run thin all you have is your crew and this ship. But what if you had more options another crew member someone who could make your enemies turn a blind eye as you robbed them."
"Why should I trust you"
"Cause you know it's true I'm all you got"
